Woods Jr. didn’t show the same level of aptitude for the game of golf as his father

Charlie Woods had a rather unremarkable start to his American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) career at the Will Lowery Junior Championship, posting rounds of 78, 81, and 78, respectively. His combined score of 21-over par over the 54-hole event landed him in a tie for 32nd place out of 51 competitors.

Meanwhile, Patmon Malcom dominated the tournament, finishing a notable eight strokes ahead of the competition with an impressive score of 7-under par after consistent rounds of 69, 70, and 70

Charlie, who recently turned 15, received a sponsor’s invitation to participate in the tournament. Notably, his father, Tiger Woods, made a special appearance to support him, interrupting his schedule after holding discussions with LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

Charlie’s performance throughout the tournament was a mixed bag. In the first round, he managed to card birdies on the 6th, 7th, and 14th holes but struggled with five bogeys and consecutive double bogeys on the 2nd and 3rd holes, resulting in a 6-over 78.

How did Woods perform in the second round?
His struggles continued into the second round, marked by eight bogeys and another double bogey, with only one birdie to balance his score, leaving him at 15-over par and tied for 40th place.

During the final round, Charlie faced another challenging start with early bogeys and double bogeys. Despite a birdie on the 17th and consecutive birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes, he struggled to maintain consistency, ultimately finishing with a 6-over 78 for the round and maintaining his T32 position overall.

While it was undoubtedly a tough debut for Charlie, the experience serves as a valuable learning opportunity for the young golfer. Notably, his inclusion in the tournament garnered significant media and fan attention, leading to heightened security measures at the event, likely in response to previous incidents of unruly fan behavior during his attempts to qualify for PGA Tour events. Despite the challenges, Charlie’s debut in the AJGA showcases his potential and sets the stage for future growth and development in his golfing career.

Iga Swiatek, the WTA number 1, experienced a roller coaster of emotions at Roland Garros in 2021. Her journey took an unexpected turn in the quarterfinals against Maria Sakkari, leaving her to deal with a defeat that was quite hard for her to accept. Looking back on those memories, Swiatek shared her insights on the emotional challenges that she went through after the loss, admitting that it was not ‘easy’ for her.

The 22-year-old (then 20) had to take an off-court medical time-out in the second set of the match in 2021, after which Sakkari knocked her out. The defeat was hard for her, especially after her outstanding start to the tournament. However, in a recent interview, she revealed how she can now ‘overcome’ those issues swiftly.

Iga Swiatek’s reflections on her defeat at the French Open quarterfinals in 2021
Iga Swiatek, during the French Open of 2021, failed to maintain her composure against Maria Sakkari. Three years after experiencing the loss, Swiatek reflected on the match, expressing the distress and pressure that she went through at that time. “I remember I couldn’t sleep and everything.” She had bagged a grand slam before that match. This further increased the pressure on her shoulders. As a result, when she lost the quarterfinals of the French Open, it became a more emotionally demanding situation for her.

Yeah, I think Roland Garros 2021 was a great example, ’cause — for sure being the defending champion, especially after a Grand Slam where you weren’t really expected to do anything, it wasn’t really easy.” she said, further describing the emotional turmoil that she felt following the game.

However, Iga Swiatek learned her lessons the hard way. Delving deeper into the subject, she opened up about the valuable lessons that she acquired after the defeat.

Swaitek now knows how to ‘overcome’ her problems off-court

Iga Swiatek acknowledged the important lessons she gained after losing the game in 2021. She understood how critical it was to accept weakness and use it as a source of strength for development, both on and off the court.

Talking about the solutions to the challenges that she faced, Swiatek said, “Now I have some solutions to overcome these kind of issues”. This signified the emotional growth that she experienced after the defeat.

“Back then, like, the whole tournament was really tough emotionally. I wouldn’t have made the same mistakes on the next ones ”, Swiatek further highlighted the mental fortitude she developed over the years.

Through all the highs and lows of her Roland Garros journey, Iga Swiatek came out on top as a champion-maybe, not on the court, but definitely on her personal journey of self-discovery.

Serena Williams took to social media to let fans know what occupies her time after giving up tennis.

Williams shared a TikTok video where she discussed her investment business which she started long before her ‘transition away from tennis’.

Serena Williams frustrated

Quite a few of her investments have hit the headlines like her stake in the Miami Dolphins.

Williams formed an investment group with Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Mia Hamm, and Becky G in July 2022 to support the National Women’s Soccer League (NSWL). The group of women, together with Williams’ daughter Olympia, co-own Angel City FC, which became the NSWL’s 11th franchised side headquartered in Los Angeles.

She is proudest of helping small businesses get off the ground and building diversity in various spaces.

“Hey everyone, I thought it’d be really fun to kinda talk about things that I do now that I don’t play professional tennis anymore. Kinda evolved from that. One thing that I have been doing, that I’m doing for years and years is investments,” Serena Williams said in her recent TikTok video.

“So I invest in a lot of companies, early companies, so think early stage, where companies have just started. And, I’ve always done this, I’ve actually been investing for over 14 years.”

Williams has found herself getting more and more engaged with investments and is proud of her successes including investing in startup that would become a unicorns.

She said that investment was her plan B but it has proven more profutable than her tennis career.

“Just been an entrepreneur, while I was playing tennis, it’s super important for me to make a plan B while I was doing my plan A. Sounds weird, like a plan B. But it was fun, it was really important for me to do that, she added. “So, in my personal portfolio, I have invested in over 85 companies, maybe? Also, 14 are unicorn and a few decacorns.”

Serena Ventures was created in 2014 in Washington, D.C. by Williams and Alison Rapaport Stilman with the goal of assisting businesses “whose perspectives and innovations level the playing field for women and people of colour.”

However, she only announced the company in a post to Instagram in April 2019. It is now headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, and is actively seeking early-stage, series A, B, C, and seed investments.

Serena Ventures manages a wide portfolio of 64 firms in consumer products and services, information technology, TMT, healthcare, e-commerce, and wellness.

According to the firm’s website, 53% of these 64 firms are created by women, and 76% by entrepreneurs from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

Claressa Shields is about to enter the octagon for the third time today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Having dominated the female boxing world, the undisputed queen will go toe-to-toe with Kelsey DeSantis. However, before her comeback following two years of absence, she hopped on social media today to convey a message for her devoted fan base!

The event in Saudi is a concoction of PFL and Bellator fighters, who will fight each other in the stacked card tonight. ‘The Goat’ Shields will fight from PFL’s corner after she signed a multi-fight deal with them in August 2023. So, the only question left unanswered is, what did ‘T-Rex’ Shields have to say to her followers?

Claressa Shield is the first woman to…

Turning to Instagram earlier today, the undefeated boxer claimed she was extremely excited about her fight tonight in the Kingdom of  Saudi Arabia. Shields claimed to be the first woman to fight in an MMA setting on Saudi Arabian soil. “Fight Day. [I am] Super excited to work toward the bigger picture! The first woman to fight MMA in Saudi Arabia happens today,” wrote Shield with hours left in her fight.

Meanwhile, her opponent, DeSantis, also had a lot to say about her clash with Shields. In a recent pinch, DeSantis appeared in an interview with Zenger News. When asked about her training camp for the upcoming fight and what Saudi Arabia has been like for her, she expressed her excitement. “It’s been great. It’s been a great camp, and I’m looking forward to a great fight,” said Santis. Meanwhile, she did not refrain from speaking about her preparation for the Shields fight.

Kelsey DeSantis on Shields’ overall progress in MMA
During the same interview, the reporter asked DeSantis about her thoughts on Shields’s time away from the octagon and whether she thinks it would have affected her performance. DeSantis, who is coming off a TKO win over Kathleen Nelson, claimed Shields could have learned a lot, but it takes more than two years to master it.

“Personally, I think you can put in work in a year or two, but when it comes to all of the elements of MMA, the ground game, and whatnot, I don’t think it takes around 5 to 10 years to progress,” said DeSantis. Later, when asked about her strategy for Claressa Shield, Kelsey DeSantis satiated, “I have definitely pulled together some strategies specifically for this fight.”

With mere hours left in their clash, both fighters have expressed their excitement about the night of punches, kicks, and what people are wishing could be an all-out brawl. However, only time can tell whether Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields can get a step closer to her championship goal in PFL. Do you think Shields will conquer MMA like boxing?

Woods shot a 15-over par

Charlie Woods has had a mixed debut at the Will Lowery Junior Championship, hosted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).

The young golfer, aged 15 as of February, received a sponsor’s invite into the tournament, marking his first appearance in the AJGA circuit.

However, Charlie’s performance thus far has been inconsistent. After completing two rounds at the Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, Florida, he finds himself at 15-over par.

His first round saw him carding a 78, marked by three birdies but also marred by five bogeys and consecutive double-bogeys on the 2nd and 3rd holes.

How was Woods’ second round?
The second round proved similarly challenging for Charlie, with eight bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 5th. Despite managing a lone birdie on the par-4 4th, he concluded the round with an 81, bringing his cumulative score to 15-over par. As the competition enters its final round on Sunday, Charlie currently stands at T40 in the 51-player field.

Nevertheless, Charlie’s participation in this event has garnered considerable attention from both media and fans. Reports indicate heightened security measures, including armed police conducting thorough ID checks at the entrance, likely in response to previous incidents of unruly fan behavior experienced by Charlie during a pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic in February.

He was forced to bring in a host of security personnel and armed police to protect him from the crowd getting out of control. In the Cognizant Classic in February, his hopes of progressing impacted by fans eager to catch a close glimpse of the American prodigy in action.

A big part of his run was hampered by a large number of fans swarming the young golfer, with intruding fans seen walking alongside him and asking for photographs, distracting him from focusing on the green.

Amidst the challenges, Charlie has received support from his father, Tiger Woods, who was seen cheering him on during his debut in the AJGA circuit. Tiger, a 15-time major champion, made a rushed return from the Bahamas to be present at the event after engaging in confidential discussions with LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan earlier in the week.

In an Instagram video, Patrick Mouratoglou claimed that after the 2022 US Open, Halep tested positive for the prohibited drug Roxadustat because his team gave her the reportedly tainted collagen supplement. However, it was Halep alone, who received all the backlash while Mouratoglou and the team slowly backed off. “I was just kind of mad that she was having to pay the total bill, and maybe that’s a dumb take by me. But that’s important to me, and I had sympathy for her for this reason,” Roddick said in his podcast.
