American and Filipino to step back into the ring in an epic fight

Both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao gave one of the most legendary fights in boxing history in 2015 and now the Filipino raised his voice to announce that they will step into the ring again in 2024 in a new exhibition.

Pacquiao will come out of retirement and face another retiree, Mayweather. The Filipino had a moment of indiscretion and declared during an event in Tokyo, Japan, that there will be a rematch between them for 2024.

Since 2021 Pacquiao retired from the ring, while Mayweather returned to a fight with mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor in 2017.

This second contest between Pacquiao and Mayweather means a rematch for Pac-Man, who in the controversial fight of 2015 lost it against

Money, who officially retired from the boxing scene as undefeated; and apparently this second fight will take place in 2024 much earlier than expected, and with both as retired and with political and business activities.

Although in his announcement The Pacman did not reveal the tentative date for the fight, so it will be in the coming days when the day could be known, for his part Mayweather has not spoken about it, so the boxing world is waiting for more information in the early days of 2024.

Claressa Shields, often hailed as the “GWOAT” or “Greatest Woman of All Time,” is ready for a showdown. After Alycia Baumgardner, the current super featherweight world champion, threw down the gauntlet, Shields responded with confidence. She firmly stated that she would fight and defeat Baumgardner at any weight. Shields’ response to Baumgardner’s assertive challenge is clear: she believes she’d dominate her if they were to face off.

However, it’s worth noting that Baumgardner recently faced a setback. Following her victory over Christina Linardatou in July, a drug test returned an adverse result for mesterolone. This led to her suspension. Yet, Baumgardner maintains her innocence. However, her beef Claressa Shields is currently the talk of the town. The two recently attended the same event recently, and things got even more complicated.

Claressa Shields and Baumgardner at each other’s throats
A casual gathering took an unexpected turn when Claressa Shields and Alycia Baumgardner found themselves at odds. Hosted by NFL receiver Dez Bryant, this event sparked a verbal spar between the two champions on Twitter. Shields felt that despite the opportunity provided by the host, Baumgardner was evasive. Sharing her sentiments online, Shields hinted at Baumgardner’s reluctance to confront her directly.

In response, Alycia Baumgardner addressed Shields’ claims, signaling that there might be more to the story. As their words exchanged online, the boxing community and fans eagerly watched the unfolding drama. The clip from the event surfaced on social media as a question was raised, “Was Alycia speaking facts when she said shields turned down a face-off?”

Fans claim Claressa is too big for Baumgardner
As the clip made its way to social media, fans did not appear happy with Baumgardner calling out Shields with no fight in sight. One fan stated, “What’s the point of constantly calling her out? Shields way too big for her.”

https://x.com/BOXINGnBBQ/status/1741293843159339275?s=20

Meanwhile, a fan didn’t appear interested in the back-and-forth. He wrote, “Does is really matter. Alycia can’t even box currently. She has yet to clear her name.”

https://x.com/peej8989/status/1741308217966092385?s=20

A fan pointed out how he has become uninterested in the situation. He claimed, “At first, I found this Shields/Baumgardner stuff entertaining. Now it’s a bit ridiculous considering Shields is too big. Baumgardner is too small and suspended for PEDs.”

https://x.com/BillzVonDoom/status/1741376769381282215?s=20

Another fan boldly stated, “Alycia gotta prove she’s not a drug cheat. People be giving her a pass because they find her attractive, We gotta keep the same energy with female fighters as we do male fighters.”

Overall, the back-and-forth between the two has set the stage for what could be a highly anticipated match. As the boxing world watches, the potential clash between these two talented fighters promises fireworks.

It’s Simone Biles in a podcast setting again, but it’s not ‘The Pivot’ this time. Since her comeback event, the 2023 US National Championships, the 26-year-old has justified the title ‘GOAT’ before her name. There’s no such platform she steps on and history isn’t made. Currently standing with six World all-around Championship titles, the Olympian takes the most pride in something else.

At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Biles jumped in joy, screaming, “I got my 5th skill named”. The 5th skill is the Yurchenko Double Pike, she has four other skills named after her, two on the floor, another in the vault, and one in the beam. Each of these skills have their own difficulty levels. But the real question is, which skill is she the most scared of?

Simone Biles rates the skills named after her
Kenan Thompson and Kevin Hart hosted the 7x Olympic medalist in an exclusive episode of 2023 Back That Year Up. While she talked about her love life with her husband, she also offered glimpses of her gymnastic world. When Thompson started his speech with “You’ve five gymnastics skills named after you”, the obvious question that followed was “do you have favorite move?” Biles’ expression looked like she already knew what was coming her way. She unhesitantly answered, “I don’t really have a favorite. I guess they’re scary to most scary”. But the moment everyone waited for, she finally spilled, “the scariest I think is the Biles II on vault”.

Let’s go back to October and relive her 5th skill naming moment. But before that, the fall on the podium training day had initially left her success in suspension. In Antwerp, Belgium, she emerged as the most decorated gymnast of all time, mainly because she could ace the ‘scary’ routine like a pro, putting aside her fears. But the world didn’t fail to capture her teary-eyed moment, which came with notes of gratitude.

Biles’ elation knew no bounds
Since her first World Championships victory came in Antwerp a decade ago, her recent win brought the story to a full circle. She had said, “World championships!!!!! Whew Antwerp will always hold a special place in my heart.” But her following statement stood as a testament to her dedication towards gymnastics. Said, “I’m speechless. I’m honored. I’m excited and I’m blessed! Doing it for the little girl who fell in love with the sport!!!!!”

On her plethora of history-making podiums, she had extended notes of gratitude, saying, “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to fans, friends, family & partnerships who have been unwavering pillars of support throughout my mental health journey.” For someone who didn’t fathom a comeback after the Tokyo Olympics setback, is looking forward to another Olympics now.

With the new year springing upon everyone, each one had a different way to celebrate it. Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian decided to ditch all celebrations and fancy parties and spend the first day of the new year 2024 at the gym working out together.

Just recently Alexis Ohanian posted about it on his official social media account. He posted a selfie of himself while he was trying to work out at the gym and somehow, he got photobombed during his mirror selfie photoshoot. And there is only one person to blame for photobombing his selfies. Can you guess who?

Serena Williams photobombs Alexis Ohanian’s selfie at the gym
As dedicated as Serena Williams and her husband are when it comes to working out, both of them made sure to hit the gym on the first day of the year to celebrate the new year together. While they were there, Alexis Ohanian was trying to take a mirror selfie.

And while he was doing that, Serena Williams made an entrance into the frame and photobombed his selfie. He posted this on his official Instagram story and also wrote alongside, “Photobombed on Day 1 of 2024 smh”.

Well, taking mirror selfies and videos is their favorite activity for sure at the gym. In fact, Serena Williams also posted a mirror selfie video on her official Instagram account. She posted about how it is the perfect way to start the new year for her is to hit the gym.

Serena Williams starts the new year by hitting the gym and inspires fans to do the same
In the mirror selfie video that Serena Williams posted, she can be heard saying that this I the best way to start the new year and that is by hitting the gym. She also used phrases like, “lets’ go”, and “get it in” to motivate herself to start the workout and also inspire her fans on the side to do the first day of the new year right by hitting the gym instead of doing anything else.

The couple certainly has a very different ideology of spending the new year away from all celebrations, traveling, and parties, and we are sure they will inspire other fans to do the same.

A highly anticipated clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder does not seem like it will be happening anytime soon.

The two men both fought in December, with Joshua taking on Otto Wallin while Wilder clashed with Joseph Parker, with the expectation that the pair would fight each other next.

Wilder vs Joshua was a fight that everyone wanted to see, but now it may never happen
Wilder vs Joshua was a fight that everyone wanted to see, but now it may never happen

Joshua put together an excellent performance, as he out-boxed Wallin over five rounds and then stopped him to record his third victory of the year.

Wilder, however, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Parker who fought with tremendous discipline to win by unanimous decision.

As such, it looks as if the Wilder vs Joshua fight will not be happening next.

And promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this, as he told IFL TV: “The fight’s dead for now…

“The people who wanted to put the fight on no longer see that as the fight that it was.

“The numbers don’t work now because Wilder’s a busted flush at the moment.

“It’s a mismatch in my opinion.”

Anthony Joshua has three-man shortlist for next fight but fans say 'only one makes boxing sense' | The Sun

As for who Joshua will fight next, Hearn named Zhilei Zhang, Filip Hrgovic and Francis Ngannou as potential options.

And should the Brit win his next contest, he could be in line to take on the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk that will take place on February 17 for the undisputed heavyweight world titles.

In terms of Wilder, there was some speculation that he might retire following his most recent defeat, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ insists that we will see him back in the ring again.

Skiing is all about finding your balance. As one of the most decorated American skiers of all time, Lindsey Vonn was pretty good at it, racking up three Olympic medals and 13 World Championship medals over the course of her 19-year career. Now that she’s retired, balance is still a goal of hers, but it looks a little different now than when she was racing down mountains.

Lindsey Vonn

In 2023, Vonn tells SheKnows, she spent more than 150 days away from home, traveling for work. “And that’s in a lot of different countries, as well,” the Olympic champion-turned-businesswoman says. “I need to be able to balance it better… There’s always going to be work to be had, but it’s a matter of finding time for yourself.”

Relaxation was on the schedule over the holidays at Vonn’s house in Utah, but for the former elite athlete, that doesn’t necessarily mean rotting in her bed every day. Vonn tries to get to the gym “as much as I can,” she says, even if it’s a 10-minute workout in her hotel room while she’s on the road. “That is something that helps me mentally as well as physically,” Vonn explains. “It helps get my equilibrium right when I can get into the gym first thing.”

Unplugging is also key. “Reading a book for 20 minutes or watching my favorite TV show for an hour, just simple things like that where I can just disconnect and recharge,” Vonn explains.

Vonn also tries to get as much sleep as she can. As a longtime sufferer of insomnia, she knows the value of it.

Lindsey Vonn's Mental Health | Banyan Treatment Center

The ski champion began experiencing insomnia after undergoing knee surgery in 2013. She’d torn her ACL and MCL and had “a bunch of fractures,” Vonn remembers. “I was just in a lot of pain.” On top of that, Vonn says, “I knew if I wanted to get back to the Olympics that next winter, that I had to sleep. And the combination of the pressure of sleeping and the pain that I was in just got me in this really bad downward spiral of not sleeping.”

For Vonn, that meant six to seven hours of sleep a night, altogether. For a professional athlete who was used to sleeping nine, 10, or 11 hours every night, plus naps, that wasn’t nearly enough.

“When you’re not sleeping well, you start the day off behind,” Vonn says. “It took me so long to get going in the morning.” She would force herself to do an interval workout on her bike first thing in the morning “just so I could get my brain to function,” Vonn remembers. The insomnia got even worse after Vonn retired in 2019. “I wasn’t physically as active, so I didn’t have that physical tiredness that I would normally get,” she recalls. “My mind was always going and I was anxious.”

Lindsey Vonn Launching Production Company: Après Productions

Vonn now uses a prescription sleep medication, QUIVIVIQ. She says it helps her “fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer,” and the effect that’s had on her life has been massive. “I wake up and it’s a completely different feeling now than it used to be,” she says. “I don’t feel like I’m already behind the eight ball. I’m ready to conquer the day and that’s what I need. I’m a go-getter, I’m a do-er, and I need sleep to be able to do that.”

Just as important is Vonn’s nightly wind-down routine. When she’s getting ready for bed, she’ll light a candle or, if she’s on the road, use a room scent that helps her feel like she’s at home. She’ll read a book, take her QUIVIVIQ, and finally shut her eyes for the night.

“Everyone wants something magical,” Vonn says of her sleep solutions. “You still need to take care of yourself. You need to have these routines that are gonna help you get in the right state of mind to sleep.”

Lindsey Vonn on Mental Health After Retirement, Support Dogs

As an athlete and a self-described “pretty stubborn” person, Vonn thought she could take care of her sleep issues herself. Finally talking to her doctor about it was “the best thing I’ve ever done,” she says, and she recommends anyone else struggling with insomnia or other sleep issues to do the same. “Most people just think not sleeping is OK and it’s just a part of life and we should just deal with it, and it’s absolutely not. It’s not OK.”

Vonn’s goal in sharing her insomnia story is to encourage others to seek help and find their own solution. “Without sleep, you’re not your best self and I definitely wasn’t,” she says. “Definitely life has changed a lot for me now.”

PERTH, Australia: Zheng Qinwen continued her strong start to the season on Sunday night, but China fell to a Novak Djokovic-led Serbia at the mixed-team United Cup in Perth, reported Xinhua.

Novak Djokovic-led–AFPPix

Having swept aside the Czech Republic in their group opener, China had the opportunity to reach the quarterfinals directly, but the irrepressible Djokovic beat Zhang Zhizhen in the men’s singles before taking charge in the decisive mixed doubles.

Djokovic partnered with Olga Danilovic to down Zhang/Zheng 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 as the match finished just before midnight.

After a breakout season in 2023, Zhang entered with confidence in his daunting matchup with Djokovic, having beaten higher-ranked Czech Jiri Lehecka in a three-set thriller.

But 58th-ranked Zhang had a reality check against the peerless Djokovic, who won 6-3, 6-2 in 72 minutes.

Djokovic dominated on serve, but Zhang was undaunted and showcased his power to trade blows early.

It was not long until Djokovic blew the match open by hitting the lines with pinpoint accuracy. He finished the match in the same way it started with an ace, gifting Serbia an early lead in the Group E tie.

“I was a little bit rusty at the beginning. I was out of the tempo, rhythm for maybe the first five, six games,“ Djokovic said. “He was serving well, and he had nothing much to lose.”

Zheng, ranked 15th, defeated No. 119 Danilovic 6-4, 6-2 in the women’s singles.

The 21-year-old continued her impressive start to the season, having stunned Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the group opener.

Zheng shrugged off a slow start to clinch a hard-fought opening set before taking control to keep China alive in the tie.

“I was under pressure needing a win, but I had a great performance and I’m happy with myself,“ she said. –Bernama-Xinhua

Last year’s Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina looked to continue her upward trajectory after a breakthrough 2022 season. Did she match or exceed those heights in 2023, or did her level fall? This article reviews the Kazakh star’s performances throughout the season.

Elena Rybakina at WTA Montreal

Elena Rybakina 2023 Season Review
Grand Slams
Rybakina’s Grand Slam highlight came at the Australian Open. After comfortably winning her opening two contests in straight sets, she defeated the 2022 runner-up in Melbourne, Danielle Collins. That set up a fourth-round battle with world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, but Rybakina played superbly to triumph 6-4 6-4. After another two-set win against Jelena Ostapenko, she played two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the semis. Although both sets were close, the 24-year-old reached the final by prevailing 7-6 6-3. The final against Aryna Sabalenka was one of the best matches of 2023. However, Rybakina lost a thrilling contest 6-4 3-6 4-6 to narrowly miss out on the title.

Elena Rybakina overcomes early nerves to get title defence off and running | beIN SPORTS

Despite not matching the heights of last year, the defending Wimbledon champion had a solid run this year at SW19. After losing the opening set in the first round against Shelby Rogers, Rybakina did not drop another set on her way to the quarterfinal. She overcame Rogers, Alize Cornet, Katie Boulter, and Beatriz Haddad Maia, although the Kazakh benefited from Haddad Maia retiring in the first set with an injury. Rybakina’s run was ended by Ons Jabeur in the quarters, who avenged last year’s final loss.

The French Open ended in frustration for the five-time WTA champion. She had to withdraw from Roland-Garros before her third-round due to an illness that left her struggling for breath. The US Open was the only significantly disappointing Grand Slam in 2023 for the Australian Open runner-up. Rybakina suffered a shock defeat to Sorana Cirstea in the third-round.

WTA 1000 Events
Rybakina, who had never previously won a WTA 1000 tournament, broke new ground at those events in 2023. Despite a difficult draw, she had a phenomenal run to a maiden WTA 1000 title in Indian Wells, only dropping one set along the way. Rybakina defeated former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and French Open runner-up Karolina Muchova on the way to the semifinal. She then demolished Iga Swiatek in the semis before getting revenge against Sabalenka in the final to triumph in Indian Wells.

Rybakina won a second WTA 1000 title in Rome. However, there was a greater amount of luck involved compared to her heroics in Indian Wells. Rybakina benefited from three retirements in six matches in Rome. Nonetheless, the Kazakh still deserves credit for securing victories against Jasmine Paolini, Marketa Vondrousova, and Jelena Ostapenko.

The 24-year-old also backed up the title in Indian Wells with a run to the final in Miami. This included a semifinal win against Jessica Pegula, but two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was too strong in the final, with Rybakina falling 6-7 2-6.

Other Events
Despite strong performances at the Grand Slam and WTA 1000 level, Rybakina struggled at WTA 250s and 500s. The 14-time WTA finalist did not make a final in any of the six events she played at those levels. Rybakina also failed to get out of the group stage at the WTA Finals. She beat Maria Sakkari, but exited after defeats to Pegula and Sabalenka.

Overall
Despite not winning a Grand Slam, 2023 is a year Rybakina can be very proud of. Winning her first two WTA 1000 events was a great achievement, and she came very close to adding a second Grand Slam title. She will hope her powerful brand of tennis can take that extra step at a Grand Slam in 2024.

Rafael Nadal says he is not scared of retirement.

But the truth of the matter is that even at 37 years of age he simply finds tennis and competition too much fun.

It is 348 days since Nadal began his latest bout of rehabilitation after hobbling away from the Australian Open’s Rod Laver Arena with a hip injury which would ultimately require surgery.

Rafael Nadal at the Brisbane International

The 22-time Grand Slam champion rarely makes predictions, but there is a bounce in his step as he returns to the tour here in Brisbane.

The early months of the season could yet take their toll, but Nadal hopes to be in a position to compete for clay-court titles come the European spring.

“Even if I know that everything is almost impossible after all the things that I went through, my age and all the things my body has – if inside myself I don’t have the feeling and the motivation or the hope that I can keep fighting for something that really motivates me, probably I will not prepare the season the way that I am,” the Spaniard told BBC Sport before the Brisbane International.

Rafael Nadal beaten on doubles return; says there's 'high percentage' he retires after 2024 season | Tennis News | Sky Sports

“I try to put myself in a position that in a few months I will be ready to compete for the things that I want to compete [for].”

A serious tilt at a record-extending 15th French Open title would be the dream scenario. This season may have been billed as a farewell tour, but surely no-one expects Rafael Nadal to turn up just to shake a few hands and deliver a few words of thanks and appreciation.

He is hoping to play a full schedule and if he can build momentum in tournaments in Australia, the Middle East and Indian Wells, the Spaniard will have high ambitions for the clay.

The tentative signs are promising. Nadal is practising well, his hip has healed and even though the degenerative condition that affects his left foot will always give serious cause for concern, he sounds excited about the year ahead.

Rafael Nadal loses but looks sharp on return to tennis after 11 months out | Rafael Nadal | The Guardian

“The foot is an ongoing problem for ever,” he continued.

“But, if I have to be honest, today I am good. I don’t have a lot of problems. I am able to practise and enjoy every practice, and that’s the main thing for me more than winning or losing – just feel myself that it’s not a drama to play tennis in terms of pain.

“What makes me feel scared, and thinking about retirement, is all the problems that I had on a daily basis.”

Nadal has practised with Andy Murray and world number eight Holger Rune, as well as Tuesday’s first-round opponent Dominic Thiem, since arriving in Brisbane.

Former US Open champion Thiem, who is ranked 98 and had to qualify, has not been the same player since a chronic wrist injury – but remains a potent threat.

Rafael Nadal considered retirement before deciding to return from hip injury that required surgery - ABC News

Nadal has not been idle over the past year. Along with all the rehabilitation, he has enjoyed watching his one-year-old son grow, although he says it would have been even better had he been able to take him on tour around the world.

He did, though, enjoy his “longest ever holiday” with family and friends when he took his boat to Greece for more than a month and there was also his academy and other business interests to attend to.

And so when the time does come, and that may not necessarily be this year, he thinks he will very swiftly come to terms with retirement.

“I am not the guy that my life was only tennis,” Nadal said.

“I think that helps a lot. I have a lot of things outside of tennis that makes me happy. I have a lot of projects that are going to make me feel active, and going to motivate me to explore different things.

“But, of course, when you change something in your life – anything – it’s a process that you need to adapt.

“Things are not easy when you stop doing a thing that you have been doing for almost all your life. But I’m not scared about that.”

Rhea Ripley has issued a bold prediction ahead of a major title match on tonight’s WWE RAW Day 1 special.

The Eradicator is set to defend the Women’s World Championship against Ivy Nile on tonight’s RAW from San Diego, CA. This will be the first-ever bout between the two grapplers. The match was made after The Diamond Mine’s Pitbull said she wanted to challenge the champion, and The Judgment Day’s Mami promised to teach her a lesson.

Rhea Ripley Explains The Evolution Into 'Mami'

Nile took to X today to hype her first main roster title shot. The 31-year-old responded to an official company graphic for the match.

“What a way to start 2024 [exploding head emoji] Happy New Year [fire emoji x 4] #WWEDay1,” Nile wrote.

Ripley’s last televised title defense came at Survivor Series in late November when she defeated Zoey Stark. She then defeated Maxxine Dupri on the December 11 RAW. Nile has worked a Fatal 4 Way tag team match and a Battle Royal on RAW, but her last TV singles match was a NXT Level Up win over Valentina Feroz in late October.

Updated WWE preview for Ivy Nile vs. Rhea Ripley
Tonight’s RAW Day 1 special will feature at least two women’s division matches – Becky Lynch vs. Nia Jax, plus Ivy Nile vs. Rhea Ripley.

Nile vs. Ripley could be a huge deal for the Diamond Mine member if she wins, as she has never held a title while with the company – on the main roster or in NXT. The updated match preview from the official RAW website reiterates how The Eradicator is voluntarily defending her title tonight.
