It appears that the undisputed middleweight champion has finally gotten engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Tony Rich. His Instagram describes him as a certified fitness trainer and a gym owner based out of Flint, Michigan, the boxing champion’s hometown.

Tony Rich is an ISSA (International Sports Science Association)-certified trainer. He founded the AT Fitness Gym in 2019. The Mt. Morris-located gymnasium was reportedly established with the aim of encouraging a fitness culture among the general public.

Clearly, the good news comes in the wake of some of the philanthropic initiatives taken by the superstar boxer. Last week, before Christmas, on Saturday, she organized her fourth annual toy giveaway. Incidentally, AT Fitness Gym was the venue for the outreach program. Speaking about her charity work, Claressa Shields said, ““It means a lot. I’m like a huge giver. When I was growing up for Christmas, a majority of the time, I never got what I wanted.”

The Olympic gold medal-winning boxer reached the pinnacle of boxing success through sheer hard work and determination. It hadn’t been an easy journey, especially with the challenges she faced during her early years. Probably that’s the reason she carries the torch for her local community.

2024 Return
Now, given what she has done for the country and the people in and around her neighborhood, Claressa Shields truly deserves all the happiness in her personal life. In terms of boxing, given that she’s signed up with the Professional Fighter League (PFL) once again, there’s a good chance of her returning to the octagon in 2024. While the gesture from the little kid was indeed heartwarming, what Shields did for her own community before Christmas was also praiseworthy. Recently, Shields hosted her fourth annual giveaway.

Shields’ Promoter on Marshall: We Welcome The Rematch, Open To Exploring It

Dmitriy Salita, promoter for undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields, has no issue with exploring the possibility of a rematch with Savannah Marshall, who holds three world titles at 168-pounds.

Marshall defeated Shields when they were amateurs. For Shields, it still remains as her only defeat as an amateur or pro.

Last October in London, they finally met in the pros, with Shields winning a unanimous decision to unify the middleweight division.

Marshall would later move up to 168 and defeat Franchon Crews-Dezurn to become the undisputed champion at 168. An injury, which prevented her from making a mandatory defense, has removed Marshall from the WBC belt – but she has the ability to force a rematch with Crews-Dezurn, who earlier this month captured the vacant WBC belt.

Despite the move in weight, Marshall is still chasing a rematch with Shields – an option her team is willing to consider.

“People keep asking me about the rematch with Savannah Marshall. It’s a fight that’s also natural because that rivalry is also a natural rivalry. It’s not manufactured. You don’t have to tell either fighter what to say, how to act, they genuinely dislike each other,” Salita said.

“Claressa travelled thousands of miles away from home to avenge that controversial loss as an amateur and she did it at the peak of her career. There’s not a lot of American fighters that in the peak of their career, who have been Olympic champions, have travelled to the country of their rival to fight them. Claressa did it and she won in spectacular fashion and gained tens and hundreds of thousands of fans abroad. A true world champion is what she is.”

Shields has a contract with MMA organization PFL.

Earlier this year, Marshall dipped her own foot in MMA waters by signing an agreement with PFL – which opens the door to have a rematch with Shields in another sport.

“Their rivalry’s so great whatever they do, if they play chess, people are going to want to see it,” Salita said.

“I believe 10 out of 10 times Claressa wins the fight but Savannah is a very good fighter. I believe that fight is always going to be entertaining and exciting. But Claressa keeps getting better, keeps getting stronger, her confidence is now on another level but we welcome the rematch. For the rematch, both have been victorious [since their last fight], we’re open to exploring it.”

In her recent Instagram Live, she addressed the entire situation and how she doesn’t care much about getting dropped during a sparring session. The video dates back to 2018. Arturs Ahmetovs decided to release it online. During the session, he and his coach Derik Santos decided to take the padding off from their gloves, which potentially even posed a threat to Shields’ life.

The Michigan-born boxer stated, “I don’t give a f**k about being dropped. But what I will say is, when a motherf***er try to cheat me, you got me f**ked up. And yes, I ran to my car and I grabbed my knife and I was going to cut Derik Santos. And guess who stopped me? Coach John.” She admitted that she was furious about the conspiracy Santos and his pugilist had planned against her.

Claressa also pointed out that she’s grateful she didn’t take that step because it’d have ruined her career. The situation was treated in a grave manner by her and she even addressed it on X, with a series of posts.

Contrary to initial perceptions, Shields clarified that the clip is actually five years old, and its emergence in the public eye is only happening now. Ahmetovs, holding onto it for years, has not disclosed the reason for bringing it to light at this particular moment. So, soon after its release, Shields wrote, “One thing for sure, if I went public 2018 about how this fellow professional boxer & boxing trainer took his padding out his gloves to sparr against me because I embarrassed him earlier that week, it would have jeopardized my upcoming world title fight.”
