In a world where every tweet can spark a revolution, a single post from a champion boxer has started a dialogue that extends far beyond the ring. Claressa Shields, a two-division undisputed champion, is known for her power punches and fearless spirit. But recently, it’s her words outside the ring that are making an impact, igniting a discussion on an unexpected and often overlooked issue in the sports world.

As she prepares for an upcoming rematch, Shields has left her fans and followers intrigued and slightly perplexed with a recent tweet. While the message comes from a place of power, it also highlights a curious discrepancy in the world of women’s sports, leaving many to ponder over its implications.

A tweet that packs a punch: Claressa Shields highlights discrepancy in women’s sports viewership
In the heart of the discussion lies a tweet from Shields that has since garnered significant attention. The champion boxer took to her Twitter account to express a striking observation. She wrote, “It’s proven that most women don’t watch women sports. That’s weird to me. If we want to prosper in our sport we have to support each other!!! All women champions fights I’ve been too, all of them should be at my World title fight Vs Gabriels June 3rd! It should be packed with.”

Shields’ words seem to highlight an issue that has long been present but scarcely discussed the lower viewership of women’s sports, even among women themselves. With the upcoming match against four-division world champion Hanna Gabriels on the horizon, Shields’ call for more women to support and attend women’s sports events is timely, powerful, and evocative.

Is Claressa Shields the ‘face of women’s boxing’?
In a recent interview conducted at her Florida club during a training session, Shields discussed her upcoming bout with Gabriels, her personal beliefs about her role in the sport, and the disparity she sees in women’s representation in boxing. The Michigan native asserted her prowess in the ring, citing her victory over Savannah Marshall as evidence of her skill. She emphasized her conviction with a bold statement, “If I was a man, I’d be the face of boxing. I’ve got more accomplishments than everybody.”

Shields expressed frustration over the lack of consideration given to women’s boxing in discussions about the sport’s leading figures. However, she remains committed to her craft, promising to continue honing her skills and promoting women’s boxing, regardless of the world’s perception.

She ended the chat by emphasizing the significance of her impending bout against Gabriels, promising to bring her best self to the ring on fight night.

Claressa Shields has already etched her name in boxing history. As the first American woman to claim Olympic gold in boxing and the first American, irrespective of gender, to secure consecutive Olympic golds, Shields stands as a trailblazer in the sport. However, outside the ring, Shields is also known for her adept trash-talking skills.

Recently, Alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed super featherweight world champion, threw down the gauntlet, challenging Shields to a bout. Responding to Baumgardner’s call, Shields confidently asserted that facing her would be an easy task. Just when fans thought, the two had stopped going back-and-forth, the two locked horns once again on social media.

Claressa Shields and Baumgardner at each other’s throats
In the boxing world, where respect is earned in the ring, a new feud has emerged between Claressa Shields and Alycia Baumgardner. Shields recently took to social media, stating, “I’ve never hated on a boxer in my life I just don’t mess with a lot of fighters cause they weird!!!! I thought this goofy was different, but she been a hater from jump. So mad that I got the opportunity to fight at LCA & her network had her at the Masonic temple… its levels to this shit. You gotta earn it!”

She emphasized her recent fight at the Little Caesars Arena (LCA) which cost $862.9 million to build, hinting at Baumgardner’s lesser-known venue, the Masonic temple. Shields feels that not all fighters are on the same level, and she clearly believes she’s on a higher one.

Baumgardner didn’t hold back either, responding, “Like I said a cap a** bih. Are you dumb? A hater? Girl, do you know who I am.” She defended her choice of venue and pointed out that Shields had also fought at the Masonic temple. Moreover, she also claimed, “Bc you fought at LCA..a half empty stadium ! BFFR.”

https://x.com/alyciambaum/status/1740606832064762164?s=20

The back-and-forth continued with Shields pointing towards how Baumgardner got suspended after failing a drug test. She stated, “She’s triggered again like bro go punch a bag & pray you get off the suspended list. This bishhh capped out talking like she really like that it’s so funny.”

This rivalry highlights the competitive nature of boxing. Only time will tell if these two will settle their differences in the ring. Here’s what happened recently when Baumgardner called Shields out for a bout.

Shields claims she is better even without the knockout power
In the previous exchange, Shields pointed out Baumgardner’s loss, stating, “They got all that KNOCKOUT POWER but still got them losses though.” Baumgardner’s sole defeat came against Christina Linardatou in her first WBC International Super featherweight title defense. On the other hand, Shields highlighted her flawless record, emphasizing her No.1 pound-for-pound ranking. Notably, Shields holds multiple titles, including WBA, WBC, IBF, and more.

Transitioning to the broader landscape of women’s boxing, Shields acknowledged the growing tension between them. This rivalry has undoubtedly become a focal point in the realm of female boxing. What do you think about the potential fight between the two? Would you watch it? Do share your thoughts in the comments below.

Claressa Shields, often hailed as the “GWOAT” or “Greatest Woman of All Time,” is ready for a showdown. After Alycia Baumgardner, the current super featherweight world champion, threw down the gauntlet, Shields responded with confidence. She firmly stated that she would fight and defeat Baumgardner at any weight. Shields’ response to Baumgardner’s assertive challenge is clear: she believes she’d dominate her if they were to face off.

However, it’s worth noting that Baumgardner recently faced a setback. Following her victory over Christina Linardatou in July, a drug test returned an adverse result for mesterolone. This led to her suspension. Yet, Baumgardner maintains her innocence. However, her beef Claressa Shields is currently the talk of the town. The two recently attended the same event recently, and things got even more complicated.

Claressa Shields and Baumgardner at each other’s throats
A casual gathering took an unexpected turn when Claressa Shields and Alycia Baumgardner found themselves at odds. Hosted by NFL receiver Dez Bryant, this event sparked a verbal spar between the two champions on Twitter. Shields felt that despite the opportunity provided by the host, Baumgardner was evasive. Sharing her sentiments online, Shields hinted at Baumgardner’s reluctance to confront her directly.

In response, Alycia Baumgardner addressed Shields’ claims, signaling that there might be more to the story. As their words exchanged online, the boxing community and fans eagerly watched the unfolding drama. The clip from the event surfaced on social media as a question was raised, “Was Alycia speaking facts when she said shields turned down a face-off?”

Fans claim Claressa is too big for Baumgardner
As the clip made its way to social media, fans did not appear happy with Baumgardner calling out Shields with no fight in sight. One fan stated, “What’s the point of constantly calling her out? Shields way too big for her.”

https://x.com/BOXINGnBBQ/status/1741293843159339275?s=20

Meanwhile, a fan didn’t appear interested in the back-and-forth. He wrote, “Does is really matter. Alycia can’t even box currently. She has yet to clear her name.”

https://x.com/peej8989/status/1741308217966092385?s=20

A fan pointed out how he has become uninterested in the situation. He claimed, “At first, I found this Shields/Baumgardner stuff entertaining. Now it’s a bit ridiculous considering Shields is too big. Baumgardner is too small and suspended for PEDs.”

https://x.com/BillzVonDoom/status/1741376769381282215?s=20

Another fan boldly stated, “Alycia gotta prove she’s not a drug cheat. People be giving her a pass because they find her attractive, We gotta keep the same energy with female fighters as we do male fighters.”

https://x.com/Bozackery1/status/1741325835292848337?s=20

Overall, the back-and-forth between the two has set the stage for what could be a highly anticipated match. As the boxing world watches, the potential clash between these two talented fighters promises fireworks.

Early this morning, Claressa Shields shared a short clip through her X/Twitter handle. It shows her exchanging kisses with her fiancé. Meanwhile, a big engagement ring bedecked her right-hand finger.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist just mentioned, “Lol, back officially engaged.” Later, she shared the video through her Instagram story as well. It appears that the undisputed middleweight champion has finally gotten engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Tony Rich. His Instagram describes him as a certified fitness trainer and a gym owner based out of Flint, Michigan, the boxing champion’s hometown.

Claressa Shields: Taking the first steps towards happy matrimony!
In the Instagram Story, Claressa Shields stated, “Lol, @tonyrichfit jumped in the river an got my engagement ring.” Not much detail has been provided through either of the social media platforms.

Tony Rich is an ISSA (International Sports Science Association)-certified trainer. He founded the AT Fitness Gym in 2019. The Mt. Morris-located gymnasium was reportedly established with the aim of encouraging a fitness culture among the general public.

Clearly, the good news comes in the wake of some of the philanthropic initiatives taken by the superstar boxer. Last week, before Christmas, on Saturday, she organized her fourth annual toy giveaway. Incidentally, AT Fitness Gym was the venue for the outreach program. Speaking about her charity work, Claressa Shields said, ““It means a lot. I’m like a huge giver. When I was growing up for Christmas, a majority of the time, I never got what I wanted.”

The Olympic gold medal-winning boxer reached the pinnacle of boxing success through sheer hard work and determination. It hadn’t been an easy journey, especially with the challenges she faced during her early years. Probably that’s the reason she carries the torch for her local community.

2024 Return
Now, given what she has done for the country and the people in and around her neighborhood, Claressa Shields truly deserves all the happiness in her personal life. In terms of boxing, given that she’s signed up with the Professional Fighter League (PFL) once again, there’s a good chance of her returning to the octagon in 2024. The highly anticipated rematch with Savannah Marshall remains in the offing. However, since the Englishwomen too have joined the PFL rolls, the chances of a mixed martial arts fight between the two fighters appear high.

As the year comes to a close, Claressa Shields responds to a heartwarming clip from the magical night of Christmas. The undefeated Light Middleweight champion, known for her candid social media presence, stumbled upon a young kid’s confession to his neighbor on the platform. The incident in question transpired on the night of Christmas.

Tragically, the kid had just lost his mother a couple of weeks earlier, so he had to confess his feelings to his neighbor. When ‘The Goat’ Shields found the clip on X (formerly Twitter), she could not help but leave a heartfelt message.

Claressa Shields is left in awe
A handful of hours before Shields tweeted, an X user shared the clip where a young boy approached his neighbor’s front door. Unfortunately, the neighbors weren’t home, but it produced a beautiful confession from the kid. “Merry Christmas, that’s all I gotta say! I wanted to make myself happier [by wishing you Christmas]. My mom recently died, a couple of weeks back…that’s all I have to say, Merry Christmas,” said the kid.

Given how sweet the message from the kid was, Shields could not hide her thoughts, and her emotions overflowed. “Aww. I just wanna hug him, man,” Shields wrote on X. While the gesture from the little kid was indeed heartwarming, what Shields did for her own community before Christmas was also praiseworthy. Recently, Shields hosted her fourth annual giveaway.

‘The Goat’ Shields wants kids to feel special
As reported by ABC 12 News, the undefeated Shields hosted the annual toy, food, water, and winter clothing giveaway drive on 23 December. The event was held at AT Fitness, 2189 Coldwater Road in Mt. Morris Township. The Christmas giveaway aimed to sprinkle some holiday cheer on the youth grappling with depression.

“The Shields Community Outreach Program is doing community work throughout the year,” Shields told ABC 12 News. Shields went on to suggest that she has always been passionate about hosting such events for the community. She added, “I wasn’t always as fortunate as I am now, so I want those kids coming up who are not as fortunate to feel special and feel important.” Per Shields, she would keep doing it as long as she can.

While Christmas Eve has passed, it continues to spread joy online as Shields responds to the cute clip of the kid leaving a message for his neighbor. What did you think about the clip? How do you feel about Shields’ fourth annual giveaway?

According to trainer Derik Santos, who oversaw the sessions between Shields and Arthurs Ahmetovs, he’s withholding the video to combat future allegations.

Shields has already claimed that Ahmetovs removed the padding from his gloves. She also states that Santos knew about it following the 2018 gym incident.

In a shocking twist, Shields confirmed he went to her car to get a knife and contemplated stabbing Santos.

Due to Shields’ statements, Santos confirms he sought legal advice over defamation of character. The coach also added that they would have no problem releasing the new clips if necessary.

More videos exist of Claressa Shields sparring with Arturs Ahemtovs
Asked by ProBox TV if he intends to post the videos soon, Santos said: “I am going to save it for now because it would make her look as ridiculous as her accusations are.

“I have always respected her as the champion that she is. I still do so this is not a question of trying to discredit her as a fighter.

“I’m only her because she is trying to defame me and this young man [Ahmetovs]. I feel I have to stand up for him, too.”

Santos believes Shields is embarrassed by being put down so severely by the Latvian.

“After the sparring, we were all in close proximity talking, and she was frustrated because she got dropped. She was like oh, I have never been dropped. She said let me see the gloves.

“Now there are videos out there where she is saying that I hid the gloves in a bag. Now [she is saying] the gloves were ringside on the other side of the ring.

“I said to John, go get the gloves. He looked at them and saw they were marked sixteen ounces. He also said it wasn’t the gloves [and that] your [Shields’] head was up in the air.

“I would never do that, much less to him, who is a mentor and a person I worked with for many years.

“All of this is ridiculous, but I will take it seriously when it comes to protecting myself, my livelihood, and my health. I am a coach, I am a father, and I am a grandfather.

“I dare anyone to find something bad about me in the whole boxing world.”

Derik Santons takes legal advice
Clarifying his legal intentions, Santos said: “I am considering legal action for defamation of character. I have spoken to some legal attorneys already.

“I haven’t slept since this really started. And I have worked hard all these years to be a guy who kept his reputation clean and never burned bridges anywhere.

“In this day and age, it’s scary when someone lies and slanders your name because that goes like a bushfire. It goes around the world. It hurt me as a human being.

Dmitriy Salita, promoter for undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields, has no issue with exploring the possibility of a rematch with Savannah Marshall, who holds three world titles at 168-pounds.

Marshall defeated Shields when they were amateurs. For Shields, it still remains as her only defeat as an amateur or pro.

Last October in London, they finally met in the pros, with Shields winning a unanimous decision to unify the middleweight division.

Marshall would later move up to 168 and defeat Franchon Crews-Dezurn to become the undisputed champion at 168. An injury, which prevented her from making a mandatory defense, has removed Marshall from the WBC belt – but she has the ability to force a rematch with Crews-Dezurn, who earlier this month captured the vacant WBC belt.

Despite the move in weight, Marshall is still chasing a rematch with Shields – an option her team is willing to consider.

“People keep asking me about the rematch with Savannah Marshall. It’s a fight that’s also natural because that rivalry is also a natural rivalry. It’s not manufactured. You don’t have to tell either fighter what to say, how to act, they genuinely dislike each other,” Salita said.

“Claressa travelled thousands of miles away from home to avenge that controversial loss as an amateur and she did it at the peak of her career. There’s not a lot of American fighters that in the peak of their career, who have been Olympic champions, have travelled to the country of their rival to fight them. Claressa did it and she won in spectacular fashion and gained tens and hundreds of thousands of fans abroad. A true world champion is what she is.”

Shields has a contract with MMA organization PFL.

Earlier this year, Marshall dipped her own foot in MMA waters by signing an agreement with PFL – which opens the door to have a rematch with Shields in another sport.

“Their rivalry’s so great whatever they do, if they play chess, people are going to want to see it,” Salita said.

“I believe 10 out of 10 times Claressa wins the fight but Savannah is a very good fighter. I believe that fight is always going to be entertaining and exciting. But Claressa keeps getting better, keeps getting stronger, her confidence is now on another level but we welcome the rematch. For the rematch, both have been victorious [since their last fight], we’re open to exploring it.”

Despite Claressa Shields‘ formidable reputation as one of the greatest female fighters, a recent sparring session clip has stirred attention due to an unexpected moment. In the video, Shields, known for her toughness and durability, found herself on the canvas courtesy of a left hook from a male sparring partner. The surprising footage has garnered significant views, sparking discussions within the combat sports community.

Shields, who has excelled in both boxing and MMA, showcases the unpredictable nature of training sessions. She explained the reason behind her knockdown. Moreover, she conveyed how she aims to learn from it and evolve as it’s all part of the process. However, she has expressed her fury at the boxing coach Derik Santos, who played a hands-on role in the session.

Claressa Shields was prevented from committing an atrocity by another coach
In her recent Instagram Live, she addressed the entire situation and how she doesn’t care much about getting dropped during a sparring session. The video dates back to 2018. Arturs Ahmetovs decided to release it online. During the session, he and his coach Derik Santos decided to take the padding off from their gloves, which potentially even posed a threat to Shields’ life.

The Michigan-born boxer stated, “I don’t give a f**k about being dropped. But what I will say is, when a motherf***er try to cheat me, you got me f**ked up. And yes, I ran to my car and I grabbed my knife and I was going to cut Derik Santos. And guess who stopped me? Coach John.” She admitted that she was furious about the conspiracy Santos and his pugilist had planned against her.

Claressa also pointed out that she’s grateful she didn’t take that step because it’d have ruined her career. The situation was treated in a grave manner by her and she even addressed it on X, with a series of posts.

Shields had dredged up the past to explain the situation before too
Before hopping on Instagram Live, Claressa Shields had tried to uncover the truth through her posts on X. Contrary to initial perceptions, Shields clarified that the clip is actually five years old, and its emergence in the public eye is only happening now. She said that the timing of its release appears to be a strategic move aimed at gaining relevance and clout.

https://x.com/Claressashields/status/1734023849270751488?s=20

Ahmetovs, holding onto it for years, has not disclosed the reason for bringing it to light at this particular moment. So, soon after its release, Shields wrote, “One thing for sure, if I went public 2018 about how this fellow professional boxer & boxing trainer took his padding out his gloves to sparr against me because I embarrassed him earlier that week, it would have jeopardized my upcoming world title fight.”

The GWOAT revealed the breaching of the rules of boxing by Ahmetovs and his coach. Also, after this incident, Claressa Shields never trained again with Santos. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section down below.
