‘There is still time’ – Jake Paul and Mike Tyson urged to cancel fight after legend’s latest training video divides fans

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have been urged to cancel their ‘mismatch’ showdown.

‘Iron Mike’ is set to step back in the ring aged 58 to take on YouTube star Jake Paul on July 20, a fight which has seen him given medical warnings given their 31-year age deficit.

Tyson has been documenting his training in footage posted to social media, with some fans surprisingly impressed by his punch power and suggesting he will beat Paul.

And his new footage crushing the pads with trainer Rafael Cordeiro, has been met by new pleas from fans for Paul to abandon the fight plans.

One commented: “Jake, you can still say no. It’s okay.

Another agreed: “Wow, if just one of those punches lands, Paul will be in the ICU.”

One fan suggested: “Jake’s gonna need to borrow some of those pads from Mike’s trainer.”

A fan observed: “Look at his coaches’ face, he is fearing for his life.”

One even wrote: “If Mike Tyson doesn’t win… this was fixed.”

But not all fans were convinced by the footage, with one writing: “Run Tyson. Get your wind back. You’re gonna need it for this fight trust me.”

One pleaded: “Hey Champ, can you show us a video of you hitting mitts or the heavy bag for 3 mins straight? If not just cancel it!”

A fan predicted: “I hope you all know Mike isn’t beating Jakey.”

Although a final user concluded: “It’s okay to back out Jake Paul or Mike Tyson, I’m just saying..”

Paul himself even responded to the footage, writing in the comments: “He’s the best ever. The most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there’s ever been. And I will defeat him.”

It is clear that Tyson is still one of the best around in short bursts, but it remains to be seen if he can keep up his work for an eight-round period.

The former undisputed champion already suffered a damaging defeat to the end of his professional career losing three of his four final fights before retirement in 2005.

Paul will be the younger and fresher fighter at just 26 despite having far less experience in the ring.

But a proportion of fans are still certain that Paul will lose, after seeing training footage compared side-by-side.

Tyson’s trainer has insisted the veteran is working harder than ever, and will be primed in time for their summer battle.

UFC boss Dana White is confident Mike Tyson is preparing for his Jake Paul fight properly after speaking with the boxing legend’s wife.

Boxing icon ‘Iron Mike’ is preparing for a comeback fight against social media star Jake Paul on July 20 at the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Texas. Tyson will be 58 by the time he steps foot in the ring and there is a 30-year age gap between him and Paul, who wasn’t even born when ‘Iron Mike’ had a record of 45-2.

Although UFC boss White admitted he doesn’t want to see Tyson still fight, he is glad to hear the ring legend is taking it seriously. “I love Mike Tyson and I’m not a fan of anybody fighting at our age, but he’s a grown man obviously and he’s going to do what he’s going to do. I talked to his wife a couple of days ago and he’s taking it serious and he’s training for it,” White told Lex Fridman.

“I think Mike Tyson is one of the most unique guys who have crossed over, any of the other fighters from his generation have no way of making money without fighting and Mike Tyson has made a lot of money outside of fighting. Tyson still has that aura that you could be in a restaurant, you’d be like ‘Holy f***, Mike Tyson is here.’

“He still has that aura and energy in a room, he makes lots of money outside of the ring but I think he ends up getting these offers that he can’t refuse.” Paul has a professional record of 9-1 and his third fight took place on the undercard of Tyson’s last outing, an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.

Paul recently ditched mega-fights against popular opponents in a bid to build up his record, knocking out unknown boxers Andre August and Ryan Bourland in his last two fights. White mocked Paul by bringing up the influencer’s only defeat to Love Island star Tommy Fury and jokingly said he will fight Clint Eastwood after his bout with Tyson.

“Jake Paul did fight a kid his age and he lost. I just saw this thing on the internet yesterday and I reposted it where it says if he beats Mike Tyson he’s going to fight with Clint Eastwood next, Clint Eastwood is 93 years old,” White told Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.

The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul which was initially predicted to be an exhibition bout, has now been upgraded to a professional fight under the auspice of the Texas Boxing Commission. Amidst the growing anticipation, Roy Jones Jr. who thought he had “made a mistake” when he agreed to fight Tyson in an exhibition bout in November 2020, also came forth to provide his verdict on what the fight may look like come July 20.

In a video shared by IBA – Boxing on social media today, Roy Jones Jr. revealed the only way ‘The Problem Child’ can win the fight. Jones Jr. said, “It’s very intriguing how it may turn out because Jake Paul has gotten a lot better as a boxer over the days.” However, ‘Captain Hook’ cautioned Paul about overlooking Tyson’s power because of his age. He claimed, “Mike Tyson, even at 57, 58, however old he is, he [is] still Mike Tyson. When I boxed him in [2020], he [was] still punching like Mike Tyson.”

The former champion from Pensacola even seemed confident that if Tyson connected a clean shot to Paul’s chin, there was no way Paul would be able to withstand the sheer power behind Mike’s punch. Jones Jr. revealed the perfect game plan for ‘The Problem Child,’ and said, “If Jake stays away from him for four or five rounds, then Jake has a chance.”

In 2020, Tyson stepped into the ring after 15 years, when he fought against Jones Jr. They fought to a draw with eight two-minute rounds. However, a few months before the fight, the 55-year-old boxer felt that he made a mistake in agreeing to fight Tyson. In an interview with Skysports, Jones Jr. said, “He’s still Mike Tyson. He’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring. If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy. He’s going to have all the first-round fireworks, not me.”

‘Captain Hook’ further added, “I do have first-round fireworks, but he’s known for more first-round fireworks than anybody to ever touch boxing, other than maybe George Foreman. With him having the first-round fireworks, he’ll be against a guy smaller than him, maybe 40-50 pounds smaller than him.”

Similarly, now Jones highlighted that Paul would have to do a lot of maneuvering to follow this plan and win the fight. While Jones Jr. has approved of the fight despite the 30-plus-year age gap, concerns have arisen due to a doctor’s warning to Tyson.

After the fight was officially confirmed earlier this month, fans and pundits cautioned Tyson about the potential health concerns. This was escalated when an old clip of Tyson from 2022 surfaced online where he was spotted using a cane to walk. A statement from Stephen Hughes, Senior Lecturer in Medicine at Anglia Ruskin University, highlighted the concerning reality of the fight. “In older people, the brain tends to lose volume. This lengthens the bridging veins and makes them more vulnerable to rupture. Alcoholism is known to accelerate brain shrinkage, and it appears that Tyson has this as a past risk factor,” wrote Hughes.

However, Mike Tyson hasn’t been bothered by such reports. Instead, he took to X and shared a short clip of his training sessions along with a message to his opponent, “You still wanna f*** with me? #PaulTyson.”
