Returning to the Chevron Championship, a venue that will always hold special meaning for her as a teenage champion, wasn’t the victorious homecoming that Lexi Thompson had hoped for. Ten years after winning the 2014 ANA Inspiration, now the Chevron Championship, Thompson could not secure a second major championship. She shot a dismal 78-74 in the first two days, failing to make the cut for the weekend rounds.

A Tense Interview With Lexi Thompson Is One Lasting Memory From the Year - Sports Illustrated

Lexi Thompson’s unexpected early exit from the Chevron Championship came as a shock to the golf world. The usually solid American player continued a long-term losing streak as she missed the cut in one of the major tournaments on the LPGA Tour. However, Thompson’s candid Instagram post following the unlucky cut was what truly grabbed the attention and support of her followers.

The 27-year-old acknowledged in the post that she was not “100% healthy” and that she needed “to figure out how to get back to my best self” in terms of both her physical and mental well-being. “Wasn’t how I wanted my week to go, that’s for sure,” Thompson wrote. She also added that, “Not being 100% healthy is never fun to deal with physically or mentally,” meaning that she didn’t really get to enjoy herself on the greens at Chevron. “Even though I pushed through it this week,” she said, she knew it was “time to do the work on myself.”

Now after such a heartfelt message from the pro herself, how could the fans not come out in support of their favorite. Fans took to social media in droves to console her and remind her that she still has it in her!

Fans barrage the comments with heartfelt messages!
Lexi Thompson’s fans praised the American for her vulnerability and commented in support of her, vowing to standing behind her during her difficult times. One fan, commented, “Get better, take all the time you need. We’ll be here ready to cheer you on!!“ This showcased the fan’s willingness to be patient as Thompson prioritizes her overall well-being. Although everyone, especially her fans, would love to see her play at full strength, they might just have to wait out a little longer.

Another fan wrote, “Lexi, you give so much of yourself and sometimes you have to let yourself rest and rehab. You have our support, it’s clear your fans care about what you do.” This highlighted this fan’s appreciation for Thompson’s dedication to the sport and their wish to see her make a complete recovery.

Another fan said, “Lexi you are always the positive voice of the LPGA even when you play through pain-I don’t know the numbers ranking you but what I know is you have nothing to prove in this game.” This demonstrated fans’ admiration for Thompson persevering despite her health issues. With her previous performance in 2015, she has proved that she is capable of taming the beast that are the Majors, an now she spreads positivity throughout the Tour.

The comment from this fan clearly showed the excitement for Thompson’s return to form, saying, “Hoping your recovery plan is successful. You are and will be, again, one of the biggest draws for the LPGA.” His comment proves that Lexi Thompson is one of the most celebrated players on the Tour, and will remain to be so for the coming years.

Finally, one fan summed up the overall fan sentiment nicely, commenting “Stay positive and get healthy, remember that you are a fantastic ambassador for women’s golf.” Even though Thompson has been struggling lately, her openness about requiring time to recover has touched a nerve with loyal fans who want to see her return to her stunning best on the LPGA Tour.

There are 18 holes left until golf fans know who will win the inaugural Ford Championship.

Some of the most famous names in women’s golf crowd the top of the leaderboard, trying to take home the $337,500 prize for first place.

Lexi Thompson, Nelly Korda Ford Championship

Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda are among 10 women within two shots of the leaders entering the final round. Solheim Cup hero Carlota Ciganda, Hyo Joo Kim and Sarah Schmelzel sit at 15-under to hold the lead heading into Sunday.

Seville Golf and Country Club’s course had the weather on their side for Saturday’s round.

“It was brutal,” Korda said. “Played like a completely different golf course. The wind started picking up at noon and got progressively windier as the day went on. It’s very open out here, so the ball gets hit hard with this weather. Happy to get in at 3-under.”

Thompson expressed a similar sentiment to her round on Saturday.

“Felt good with overall the windy conditions. With my score, I’ll definitely take it,” Thompson said. “Some of the holes out there you just have to take your par and run. There were some gettable holes that you need to birdie and take advantage of those. It was hard out there.”

Korda is in contention to win her third straight LPGA event after she shot a 3-under 69 on moving day.

She recorded four birdies and one bogey. The World No. 1 golfer had a chance on 18 to record a 4-under but had to settle for par.

Meanwhile, Thompson is looking for her best finish of 2024. She also fired off a third-round 3-under 69. She made the turn at even par and picked up some momentum with three birdies down the stretch.

They aren’t the only heavy hitters in contention.

Lilia Vu is three shots off the leaders at 12-under. She recorded a 5-under 67 on Saturday, pushing her up 45 places on the leaderboard. Lydia Ko is among the 10 ladies at 13-under after her 2-under 70 in round three. With one win under her belt, she looks to join Korda as a multi-winner in 2024.

Nelly Korda wins 2024 Ford Championship, third straight win on LPGA

Ciganda tallied two eagles, three birdies and two bogeys on Saturday, which helped propel her up 22 spots to co-lead.

There are 20 women within a few shots of the leaders. Who will go low on Sunday to take home the inaugural Ford Championship crown? Could Nelly add to her already incredible start to 2024, or will it be someone else?

With the LPGA back in the U.S. for the first time since January, a number of the tour’s stars have returned including Rose Zhang. It’s finals week at Stanford, yet Zhang isn’t playing like someone who balanced practice rounds at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship with term papers and exams.

As No. 1 Lilia Vu clawed her way back to play the weekend, another breakout star from 2023, defending champion Ruoning Yin, finds herself in familiar territory.

Here are five things to know from the early action at Palos Verdes Golf Club, where the legendary Seri Pak plays host to the next generation.

Back for more

Yin hasn’t had the best start to 2024 but still sounded confident coming into Palos Verdes, where she won her first LPGA title last year. Her second-round 65 included a front-nine 31 (her second nine of the day).

“The front nine the fairway is wide open and I can smoke it whenever I want,” she explained. “Plus, today’s pin position is quite easy for attack. I can be aggressive.”

Yin credited her caddie, veteran David Jones, for repeatedly reminding her to stay patient.

Full marks

Zhang returned to the LPGA after nearly a two-month break and put herself right back in contention. The Stanford student reports that she received full marks on an exam she took on Tuesday.

On the leaderboard at Palos Verdes, she’s one back of defending champion Yin.

“We’re slowly getting there,” said Zhang, who wrapped up the winter quarter earlier this week. “I think being able to come back and really stay in the zone, I think what I really missed about competitive golf is once you’re in the zone, it feels really good to just commit to everything that you have and put your all out there.”

Zhang, who shot a second consecutive 68, won a college event at Palos Verdes in February 2023 and reports that the greens are softer this time around.

“Last year I remember I couldn’t go at any pins just because it was so hard to stop the ball in certain areas,” she said. “This year I think it’s a little bit more playable. You can attack in certain areas.”

Terrific turnarond

Maria Fassi joked that she should get the “most improved gold star” for her 6-under 65. The former NCAA champ opened with a brutal 76 and looked in danger of not playing the weekend.

While Fassi has missed the cut in her two previous LPGA starts this year, she did finish third on the LET in Morocco.

“I would’ve quit golf a long time ago without the amazing people I have around me,” said Fassi. “They really keep me in it. Yeah, I have a lot of very good friends out here as well that just always say the right thing when I need to hear, whether they know it or not.”

Friday slump

Lexi Thompson holed out for eagle, her second of the day, to end Thursday’s round at Palos Verdes. Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t carry over to Friday.

Thompson’s second-round 78 included six bogeys, one double and only one birdie. She hit only 10 fairways and 10 greens on Friday and took 33 putts. This was Thompson’s second LPGA start this season. She has played in two LET events, finishing 11th two weeks ago in Florida.

She finished the Seri Pak event at 7 over.

College connection

This week marks the third time Palos Verdes has hosted an LPGA event. Zhang is one of five past winners of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge in the field this week, joined by World No. 1 Lilia Vu (2018), Andrea Lee (2019), Lindy Duncan (2012) and Carlota Ciganda (2011).

There are 11 alums between UCLA and USC in the field. Rookie Malia Nam, who opened with a 65 on Thursday, said she’s played Palos Verdes over 100 times.

“It’s really nice that we were able to practice here,” said Nam. “We had a tournament here every year. I was able to play that when I was in college, so, yeah, it really helped today just knowing exactly what clubs I’m going to have in and how to prepare for this tournament as well.”

Players representing the Bruins this week include Alison Lee, Ryan O’Toole, Patty Tavatanakit and Vu. Former Trojans include major champions Sophia Popov and Allisen Corpuz, Gabriela Ruffels, Lizette Salas, Jennifer Song, Gabriela Then and Nam.

Lexi Thompson balances femininity with athletic and functional clothing. We take a look at how her golf fashion has changed over the years

Lexi Thompson has been a Puma ambassador since turning pro in 2010, and ensures she looks and feels her best on the course, providing valuable feedback to the brand to ensure maximum comfort, not only for herself but also for other female players. Here we take a look at how Lexi’s golf fashion has changed over the years.

Golf fashion naturally evolves with current trends, including colors, lengths, patterns, and styling, depending on what’s in vogue each year.

Interestingly, over nearly 15 years, Lexi’s choice of colors and styles, as well as how she combines her outfits, hasn’t changed drastically. Standing at 6ft, she has a striking presence in any outfit and suits vibrant colors like orange, bright blue, purple. She’s also not afraid to go for an all-over block color including black or white. When you compare images from 2010 to the present day and everything in between, the one color that stands out as a firm favorite is pink.

While she leaned more towards color-coordinating patterns in her early years on tour, such as the blue/white combo at the 2011 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, recent years have seen her regularly opt for a plain black or white skort paired with a stylish colored top in performance-led fabrics.

Like Michelle Wie-West, Lexi has always been a fan of the racerback top, and nowadays, especially in warm conditions on the LPGA tour, she often plays wearing a sleeveless top.

Skorts appear to have become her preferred option over shorts, and the longer length shorts she sported at the 2015 Evian Championship didn’t seem to stick around for long in Lexi’s fashion choices. By 2016, she had returned to shorter length shorts, beautifully showcasing her athletic and statuesque figure when paired with a figure-hugging top.

“Hotel gym workout,” she captioned the mirror selfie.

Lexi Thompson is getting her sweat on – at a hotel. In a new social media post the golfer shows off her amazing body during a grueling workout. “Hotel gym workout,” she captioned the mirror selfie. How does the athlete approach health and wellness? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits – including her diet and workout routine.

Capital One's The Match IX

1 Golf

Lexi spends most of her time on the golf course, perfecting her swing. Golf’s health benefits are extensive, including mind, body, and even lifespan, according to a comprehensive review published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Benefits include improved longevity, decreased risk of developing heart disease or suffering a stroke, good mental health, and improved strength and balance.

2 Sled Pulling

During an interview with Holly Sonders and Gary Williams, Lexi discussed her love-hate relationship with a particular exercise. “Sled pulling is pretty hard,” she confessed. “That is something interesting, and my trainer puts a good amount of weight on the sled,” she added. “It is very difficult, but I love it. I love training and just knowing I can improve on my fitness is very important to me.”

3 Core Strength

Lexi also explained that she improved her core strength in the gym, which helped a lot with her golf swing and self-esteem. “I feel a lot better about myself,” she said.

4 Special Diet Before Events

When she is playing a golf event, Lexi follows a special diet, which includes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, protein bars, and beef jerky. She revealed that Tiger Woods suggested it to keep her calories and energy levels up.

5 Intense Exercise Sessions at the Gym

In one of her workout videos, Lexi revealed her intense routine. It included squats with a kettlebell. “Feet shoulder width apart, feet a little toed out. Ensure good posture — header, chest out. And squeeze at the top,” she said in the clip. Then she did 10 single-leg deadlifts per side using a kettlebell. “Good posture, keep your core tight and really focus on your balance,” she said. Next up, hip rotation using a band. “Really focus on keeping your balance as you rotate that hip. Keep it nice and slow and controlled,” she suggested. She ends the video with a monster walk.

Thompson is partnering with Maxfli and looking to continue elevating the women’s game while giving back.

Lexi Thompson is one of the faces of the LPGA and women’s golf, and for good reason. She is one of the more talented women we have ever seen on tour. Thompson has 15 career professional victories, 11 of which have come on the LPGA Tour, including a major win at the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

But that is hardly the only reason why she is a key figure helping drive popularity in women’s golf.

Seemingly every time fans watch her on television, she has a smile on her face. That effervescent personality jumps off the screen and into people’s homes.

Lexi Thompson, Panther National, Maxfli

Well, I can attest to her authenticity and likability, as well as her intentions.

I was recently flown out to Panther National in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Thompson had been named an Ambassador of the Jack Nicklaus and Justin Thomas-designed course.

“I am an Ambassador of Panther National. Once they reached out and JT [Justin Thomas] and Jack [Nicklaus] want me to be a part of it, I’m like ‘yes, sign me up.’”

“It’s a huge honor just to be out here… it’s an amazing layout and practice facility for me,” Thompson said in an exclusive interview with Playing Through.

She was there for a photo shoot with her new golf ball partner, Maxfli.

Thompson is partnering with Maxfli as her exclusive ball provider for the 2024 season and will play the proven Maxfli Tour ball at each event this year.

Lexi Thompson, Maxfli, Panther National

During my time there, I was able to gain insight into what makes Lexi, well — Lexi. It was both enlightening and encouraging.

Maxfli to help Lexi Thompson take game to new heights
Thompson is looking to take her game to a new level in 2024. When her partnership with Bridgestone lapsed, she was in need of a new ball to play.

Enter Maxfli.

“When they reached out, I instantly started testing golf balls and when I saw the results, it was an easy, no-brainer decision.”

“Spin numbers were better, distance was better and around the greens I gained more feel. So, I couldn’t have asked for anything more from a golf ball,” said Thompson giddily.

Her goals and aspirations also align with Maxfli, which made this a seamless fit.

Lexi Thompson, Panther National, Maxfli

“Their passion for the game is what I have for it. Their strive to always keep on improving — technology, to improve the game of golf in general, that’s what I want to be a part of and affiliated with.”

From all accounts, this looks to be a long-lasting relationship.

But Thompson’s goals are not solely performance-driven, even though she’s confident her elevated game will help with her other key aspiration; growing the game.

Lexi Thompson helping LPGA, women’s golf grow
Over the last couple of years, the LPGA and women’s golf in general has seen incredible growth.

In 2021, the LPGA Tour doled out just under $70 million in total prize money. This year, that has grown to a record $118 million. That is almost a 70 percent growth in just three years.

Any business making that kind of leap deserves recognition. And the LPGA does it the right way.

Last week, Sports Business Journal named the LPGA one of the top places in all of sports to work. That came to fruition based on its outstanding leadership and high employee satisfaction.

Thompson showed an understanding and appreciation for the recent ascension.

LPGA: Lexi Thompson signs with Maxfli for 2024 season

“It’s an inspiration to be a part of the women’s game. It’s moving in such a great direction. On the LPGA Tour, we have gained tournament sponsorships, tv coverage, prize money — Even just the game on the women’s side recreationally has grown so much,” Thompson said.

“It’s great to see kids picking up a club at a younger age. I think that’s a big reason for all of the golf programs… LPGA has golf programs, PGA Junior League, LPGA Girls Golf Program… it’s amazing to see.”

“Being a part of that movement, that’s why I started the game. I loved it at a young age and I want to leave it in a better place as I go through my career.”

Indeed, Thompson was immersed in golf having grown up on a course in Coral Springs, Florida.

She detailed how watching her brothers play instilled a sense of determination and drive to be the best. But it was in that moment that I was witness to how self-aware Thompson is.

“I am thankful and blessed… Any way that I can give back, whether it’s growing the game or to [help] people that aren’t as fortunate, I know that I am very much am, so any way I can give them their opportunity to live their best life, that’s what I want to do.”

Most people are not born living on golf courses. They do not have the same access to clubs, courses, instruction, and so forth.

It was with that understanding that she took it upon herself to do what she believed was right; to give back.

Lexi Thompson — Philanthropic Endeavors
Golf, maybe more than any other sport, does a great job giving back to communities.

Whether that is the Friends of Golf, First Tee, the American Golf Foundation, to name a few, charity has long since been a big part of the game.

That is something that Thompson spoke to at length, detailing how much it means to her.

“Playing at the Shriners, it’s like, ‘I’m going to tee it up but only if the message is about the kids,’” Thompson said.

“It wasn’t about me trying to go out there and kick the guys’ butts… the story was way bigger than that. I didn’t want that to be the main message.”

Shriners Children’s Open - Round Two, Lexi Thompson

Last October, Thompson became the seventh woman ever to tee it up in a PGA Tour event. She found herself on the back nine Friday at the Shriners Children’s Open above the cut line. She was a few holes from becoming the first woman to make the weekend in modern golf.

That history-making performance was quite a story. Yet, her focus was on what really mattered.

“Meeting some of the Shriners kids, ambassadors, was probably the highlight [of my week],” Thompson noted after her round.

“Being with them, giving a clinic, giving golf lessons, and hopefully inspiring them to go after what they want. That was probably the most special.”

But that’s far from all she has done to give back.

She recently took part in the ninth edition of Capital One’s The Match. She, Rose Zhang, Rory McIlroy and Max Homa took part in the event where Thompson’s zany eagle putt raised $200,000 for charity.

Thompson has also worked with SEAL Legacy Foundation, supported Women’s Breast Cancer research, Wounded Warriors, among many others.

She even created the Lexi Thompson Foundation, which aims to support children with serious illnesses and encourage junior golf development.

It was made crystal clear to me during our time together how personal and paramount philanthropy is to her.

It is truly heartwarming to encounter a person of privilege with other-worldly talent care so much. In a world divided, with so many issues facing society today, we would all be in a better place with more Lexi Thompson’s roaming the Earth.

Lexi Thompson has crafted herself as the greatest youngster to ever grace the sport of golf. This star golfer joined the LPGA Tour at a very young age and became an inspiration to women’s golf players around the globe. This Florida-based golfer is also a fitness freak and keeps on impressing her fans with her brutal workout updates over social media.

However, playing golf at her best is not just a natural talent but also requires an intense level of training. Her recent Instagram post created an insane buzz, leaving her followers enthralled.

Recently, she took to social media to share a few glimpses of her fitness schedule. Her recent posts said, “Be stronger than your excuses,” in a way encouraged the viewers to start their fitness journey. Her workout is largely focused on building strength in the glutes and posterior chain, which makes sense because the glutes are the engine of your golf swing.

Thompson uses a mix of moves with and without equipment to maintain a balanced workout. A few of her preferred pieces of equipment are sleds, resistance bands, bosu balls, foam rollers, dumbbells, etc. She dedicates herself to working on her lower body for strength and speed. Additionally, she prefers exercises like sled pushes, plyo squats, and deadlifts, or movements that force her to work from the ground up. The young golfer pushes to be 5% better every day. Now that’s a goal

Looking bold in her black gym outfit, this American golf player received a lot of love from her fans.

In aww of Miss Thompson; Fans can’t get it enough!
The LPGA star has shared her exercise routine and her fans didn’t shy away from sharing their feeling.

Lexi Thompson has been notoriously private about her dating life. That, however, did little to stop the rumor mill. As the 11-time LPGA Tour winner once again made the headlines ahead of Capital One’s “The Match,” fans have been asking the same question. However, there is a new name that has been thrown in the mix this time: Gerrod Chadwell.

Chadwell is the Texas A&M head coach of the women’s golf program. A three-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, he won the SEC Championship with the Aggies last year. He is indeed a member of the golf community, but is he Lexi Thompson’s partner?

Has Lexi Thompson tied the knot secretly?
The internet has been rife with Thompson’s dating rumors. In fact, multiple outlets also claimed that the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Champion had married the Texas A&M head coach away from the public eye. Unfortunately, as it turns out, that’s not the case at all!

Contrarily, Gerrod Chadwell is, in fact, married to Stacy Lewis. Lewis, a 13-time winner on the LPGA Tour, tied the knot with Chadwell in 2016. Moreover, the two-time Major winner also has a daughter, Chesnee Lynn Chadwell, who was born in October.

The confusion seems to have arisen first after the Solheim Cup. It was when the veteran golfer was the US team captain. Lexi Thompson, after qualifying for the patriotic showdown through the Rolex World Ranking, traveled to the Spanish greens along with Lewis.

https://x.com/aggiewomensgolf/status/1402715829007945733?s=20

As for Lexi Thompson, she is still single. The 11-time LPGA Tour winner hasn’t spoken about her dating life publicly. So, there has been no verifiable information about her current or previous partners. Her romantic history may be a mystery to everyone. But we do know that for Thompson, her family remains very close to her heart.

Golf is in the DNA of the Thompson family
Interestingly, the 29-year-old is not the only golfer from the Thompson family. Her two brothers, Curtis Thompson and Nicholas Thompson, were both golfers. Her father, Scott Thompson, who introduced the star to the game, was also a pro golfer. All of them plied their trade on the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour. Lexi Thompson, for a significant part of her career, has relied on ‘family wisdom’ on the greens as well.

Nicholas has been in her bag for a long time. In fact, he was caddying for the LPGA star in Finca Cortesin during the Solheim Cup as well. In his absence, though, Scott Thompson filed for the position. That, however, will change this year, as the LPGA Pro finally settled on Colton Heisey as her looper for the 2024 season.

Lexi Thompson is having a mellow 2024 season. She has competed only in the LPGA Drive-On Championship this year. At the event, she earned $21,585 from her 16th finish. With her not taking part in many events, naturally, fans will be curious to know where she is spending her time and with whom!

The American golfer did give a glimpse of her off-the-course adventures to her fans via her social media. But another thing fans would be interested to know is the love life of the LPGA star. Is the 29-year-old dating someone? Is she married?

Is Lexi Thompson secretly married?
The American golfer celebrated her 29th birthday on February 10. She had a unique way of celebrating her birthday as she accepted the role of being the godmother of her nephew, Maverick Cole Thompson. But with this acceptance came speculations about the love interest of the LPGA star.

To all the golf fans wondering, Lexi Thompson is not dating anyone and is currently single. The LPGA Tour player has been secretive about her love life from the start, and there is no publicly available information about it. So nothing is known about her current or previous dating history.

But fans can say the 29-year-old has been in love with golf since the start. And this love runs in her whole family! Along with the LPGA star, her two brothers, Nicholas Thompson and Curtis Thompson, are also pro-golfers. They both have played on the PGA Tour. She shares a strong connection with her siblings.

Her brothers have time and again taken care of her purse in her career. She loves spending time with her nephew. Before leaving for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International on February 15, she spent time with Maverick. She shared this information with the caption, “I went to see Little Mav before I left the country.” Apart from strong family ties, some other reasons such as her love for golf may point out why the LPGA star is too busy for a love life.

Praise-worthy achievements of Lexi Thompson’s illustrious career
While there is zero information about Lexi Thompson’s love life, her golfing career shines brighter than all. She is one of the few players who are considered to be child prodigies. At the age of 12, she qualified for the US Women’s Open, becoming the youngest player ever to do so. Lucy Li later broke this record in 2014.

Looking at her budding career in golf, she began home-schooling to focus all her attention on the sport. This move made a huge impact on her career, as she broke the record for the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour by winning the Navistar LPGA Classic. This record was broken by Lydia Ko after 11 months.

Following her Navistar LPGA Classic win, she won the Dubai Ladies Masters. This made her the second-youngest player to win on the Ladies European Tour. The American star also became the seventh women ever to compete on the PGA Tour event. Notably, now she will be going head-to-head with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, and Rose Zhang in an exhibition event called The Match 2024.

While her golf career is the highlight of her life, other areas of her life show Lexi Thompson is a strong, independent woman.

The LPGA star leads a life filled with charity work
Another aspect of the female golfer that shines brighter than her love life is her passion for doing charity. She has aligned herself with many causes, like breast cancer and veteran support, promoting charities for the same. In January 2024, she took part in a panel from the Morgan Pressel Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Furthermore, she is also part of the Caddy for a Cure mission along with Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, and many more. She also regularly helps out charities like the CVS Health Charity Classic and the Michael Phelps Foundation. From making millions on the golf course, coupled with sponsorships from Bridgestone, Puma, Rock-Tenn, Rolex, and Volkswagen Group, the American golfer does not forget to give back to the community.
