Jannik Sinner’s name has been in the headlines since he won his maiden grand slam title in Melbourne. While every member of the tennis community is talking about his dominance on the courts, some comments have turned praise into hype. Getting into the specifics, American ski racer Lindsay Vonn recently made a comment in which she drew Sinner as a parallel to Roger Federer.

While tennis fans openly admitted to the deserving glory for Sinner’s achievement, they didn’t back down from resisting Vonn’s statement.

Fans reject Lindsay Vonn’s overhyped comment on Jannik Sinner
The entire world is currently vibing to the beats of Jannik Sinner. As the tennis star stunned the most formidable competitors on his way to the enormous glory of lifting the Australian Open title, renowned athlete Lindsay Vonn presented words of praise. She mentioned, “He really reminds me of Roger Federer, to be honest, if he’s under pressure, and he’s got to serve, he’s got match point or something, the perspective is that if he misses the point, nothing is going to happen.”

As Vonn couldn’t limit her excitement while drawing parallels to the tennis great Roger Federer, fans rejected her verdict. As the trail of comments started, a fan, taunting Vonn for her limited tennis expertise, wrote, “Ah yes. The famed tennis pundit – skier Lindsey Vonn…”

Another fan, drawing the specifics of Sinner’s early stage of entering the tennis glory, commented, “I hope the players are able to tune this out cause it is wild to be compared to Federer after bagging 1 slam and 1 M1000. The expectations are just sky-high… Even if it is PPS we’re talking about.”

“I don’t even get what Lindsay Vonn is trying to say here,” wrote a fan, referring to his confusion over Vonn’s comment.

Another fan, pointing toward the ongoing mania concerning Sinner’s recent victory, wrote, “Yeah, nothing against Sinner but Instagram is unbearable rn with the mania. What is surprising to me is that I’m not seeing any hate, anywhere. Full on adoration only – by media, fans, players. At this point there are usually at least a couple haters haunting the posts to say “X is overrated”, etc.”

A fan pointed toward the temporary feelings presented by athletes that he thought would fade after Jannik Sinner lost his next match. “He loses in the next grand slam and the same folks will be critical of him and point out how Alcaraz is stronger. Stop hyping players and comparing them, just freaking enjoy the tennis,” he wrote.

With these and several other comments falling in the same line, the fans proved that they are not at all supportive of the hype driven by the American athlete. As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen if Vonn comes forward with an amendment to her statement.

Vonn’s admiration extends from a mutual love for skiing
Lindsay Vonn expressed her limitless admiration for Jannik Sinner’s victory in Melbourne and revealed the reason behind her affinity. In an interview where she talked about Sinner’s victory and predicted an even better future for the young Italian, she drove a connection with him because of his early days of skiing.

“I always thought it was really special that he was a former ski racer, and that’s obviously where we connected,” she mentioned. Along with explaining her admiration, she also highlighted the 22-year-old’s nature. “He’s a pretty shy guy, but he’s really humble and always super kind,” Vonn added. As the famous athlete presented her open affinity for Jannik Sinner’s exceptional skillset, it was just the overhype the fans disliked.

The celebrated skier spoke about two tennis stars she knows well

Champion skier Lindsey Vonn says new Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner reminds her of Roger Federer.

Vonn knows Sinner because of his background in competitive skiing – and the Italian shared on social media some images of them skiing together back in 2022.

“I always thought it was really special that he was a former ski racer and that’s obviously where we connected,” Vonn told the ATP’s official website. “He’s a pretty shy guy, but he’s really humble and always super kind. I think he has just a great perspective on the sport and I think to a degree, some of that comes from skiing. We’ve talked about it quite a few times.

“He’s just a great athlete, very smart and I’m not surprised that he won Australia. I thought he would win before he did, but he’s someone that’s going to be around for a long time. And he really reminds me of Roger, to be honest.”

Vonn is a big tennis fan and has spoken before about being a fan of Pete Sampras, and then Federer. In 2017 she said of the Swiss: “Roger’s style and just the way he plays is just so graceful, he makes it so fun to watch,” adding: “For me as an athlete, it’s inspiring to watch. And meeting him after watching him for so many years, and seeing how humble he is and how much of a philanthropist he is, those are the kinds of things that I want to carry out in my life and in my career as well.”

VONN: SKIING TAUGHT SINNER TO BE FEARLESS
Sinner opted for tennis instead of skiing as a career, and Vonn talked about how the two sports compare when it comes to pressure and nerves.

“If he’s under pressure, and he’s got to serve, he’s got match point or something, the perspective is that if he misses the point, nothing is going to happen.

“It’s not like in skiing, where if you don’t take the turn right, you crash, and you could potentially hurt yourself very badly.

“So it’s the kind of fearlessness that he puts everything out there no matter what the situation. And that perspective, I think, is really different from most people, most athletes, and I think he uses that to his advantage.”

The two American skiers once shared the record of World Cup wins for women, before Shiffrin overtook Vonn. But how many globes has each of them won, and how do they stack up in terms of the number of medals secured at major competitions?

Team USA’s alpine skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin holds the record of 85 World Cup wins, having tied and then surpassed Lindsey Vonn on 82.

The former reached 82 wins at 27 years and 302 days of age (after 233 races), while the latter was 33 years and 147 days old when she clinched her last World Cup victory (in 395 starts).

Shiffrin made her World Cup debut in 2011 and raced against Vonn until 2019, when the Vancouver 2010 Olympic gold medalist retired at the end of the season.

The two global icons competed against each other at the PyeongChang 2018 giant slalom event (Shiffrin won gold, Vonn skied out in the second run), and in the Super G at the Are 2019 Worlds (Shiffrin gold, Vonn DNF).

Both skiers represented the Vail ski club during their career and they only shared the podium once in a World Cup: it happened on 19 January 2018 at the downhill event in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, when Vonn finished second behind Sofia Goggia, while Shiffrin placing third.

The famous skier has been in the wars recently

American skiing sensation Lindsey Vonn has updated fans on her physical condition after having to undergo multiple surgeries following the end of her career.

Vonn retired from the sport in 2019 as she could no longer compete at the level she wanted, and she has then had to have multiple knee surgeries.

Sharing a message with plenty of photos on her Instagram account, Vonn explains just how tough it was to keep going under the knife and build her muscles back up.

Vonn’s inspiring message
“I’ve been bruised and broken but I’ve always come out the other side a better person. No matter how many times I fell, I always got back up. I didn’t do it alone though. I am so thankful to have had the support of friends, family and you guys, my fans,” she wrote.

“Knowing I had people supporting me helped me in my darkest hours,” she continued.

“Every day I tried to put one foot in front of the other until it eventually got me back to where I wanted to go… which was usually the top of the mountain.

“We are all on our own paths, but if you’re injured or going through a hard time, believe in yourself and know that you will come out of it a better and stronger person. You got this,” she concluded.

In 2019, Vonn underwent an operation to repair her torn lateral collateral ligament (LCL) but has continued to have knee problems.

“I’ve been dealing with all the damage from my ski racing career and have been trying to manage the pain as best I can,” Vonn wrote on Instagram in July after she revealed she was undergoing another surgery.

Lindsey Vonn shared a motivational message as she recovers from previous knee surgeries.

After undergoing multiple knee surgeries since her retirement in 2019, the Olympic skier, 39, shared a series of photos on Instagram documenting her journey to recovery.

In October, Vonn shared on Instagram that she underwent a prep surgery in anticipation of a knee replacement surgery this upcoming spring.

For Alpine skiers, maintaining balance is probably the most crucial to ensure they don’t end up in a hospital bed. And yet, after the end of their professional career, hitting the gym is probably at the bottom of their list of priorities. However, the iconic Lindsey Vonn is built differently, and she once again highlighted exactly why she is revered as one of the greatest skiers of all time.

While Vonn is spending her retired life in Miami, soaking up the sun, she also has a lot of things to keep her busy throughout the day. As the Chair of Athete Experience, Vonn is currently advocating heavily for the NHL to make its debut in the state. Amidst all her newfound responsibilities, Vonn still finds time to stay in shape and fans can’t believe the routine of the Olympic gold medalist.

Lindsey Vonn appears to have things under control
In her recent post on Instagram, Vonn shared behind-the-scenes snippets of her incredible training routine that can put even young athletes to shame. Seen balancing like a pro on a piece of circular apparatus with a footboard above it, Vonn reiterates her life’s philosophy in her post. “Life is a balancing act“, wrote the two-time World Championships gold winner, mentioning that such moments help to develop skiing skills as well.

If her balancing act wasn’t impressive enough, Vonn can be seen training with weights as she finds her inner center on the intimidating equipment. Her training regimen shows exactly why (and how) Vonn stayed on her feet during those thrilling downhill skiing moments. After her post went online, Vonn’s fans came in flocks to express their disbelief about how can an athlete maintain such a pique mindset years after hanging up their boots.

Fans having a hard time believing their eyes
One fan confirmed the workout looked intense without hesitating to mention that they’d take a hard facefirst tumble if they tried to do that themselves. “I know thats hard“, commented the fan under Vonn’s post. Another fan thinks such a routine can signify only one thing, and wrote, “U makin a comeback“. Yet another fan looked fascinated about Vonn’s equipment.

The fan wrote, “I need to get one of those for my leg workouts.” Vonn’s post also prompted fan Corie to think that a similar product would be helpful for their training as well. “I need to get one of those for my leg workouts,” commented Corie. Connor had to agree, Vonn looked like “…an absolute machine“. With her fans still in awe of her skills, it waits to be if Vonn’s new goals are realized with equal poise.

Lindsey Vonn is a legend in the world of Alpine skiing. Despite retiring from the sport in 2019, the three-time Olympic medalist has continued to be an icon in the sport. Giving her tough competition and shining in Alpine skiing is another great who retired on February 13, 2021.

This skier boasts two Olympic gold medals and is celebrated as one of the greatest giant slalom skiers. In a recent blazing “Catch me if you can” challenge, the two Olympic legends faced off in an epic battle, giving fans an enthralling spectacle.

Lindsey Vonn and another Olympian face off in an epic skiing due
On TikTok, Lindsey Vonn shared an epic snippet with her 30.7 K followers. Lindsey Vonn and Ted Ligety, Olympic gold medalists in Alpine skiing, challenged each other to a thrill-inducing race at Deer Valley, Utah. The skiers showcased their impressive turns on the slopes and demonstrated their impeccable skill and dominance in high-speed skiing despite being retired from the sport. Lindsey Vonn captioned the video, “Who wins when 2 Olympic Gold 🥇🥇 medalists find each other on the same mountain….catch me if you can gets real!”

Vonn led for most of the race, even slowing down at one point to let Ligety catch up. However, in a spectacular display of speed, Ted Ligety surpassed her on the bottom portion of the hill. Despite their fierce competition, the two shared a hearty laugh and warmth toward each other, showcasing the camaraderie that exists between the legends. The epic ride by Lindsey Vonn also comes just days after she skied down a legendary track, showcasing her ongoing passion for skiing.

Accomplishing an unfulfilled dream despite retirement
On January 21, Lindsey Vonn took to Instagram to share that she had fulfilled a long-standing dream in Austria. Despite her numerous accomplishments, one of Vonn’s biggest regrets was not being able to conquer the Strief during her competitive career. The opportunity arose with the help of Red Bull, allowing Vonn to make her unfulfilled dream come true. Further showcasing her legend, Vonn not only achieved her dream but also did it at night, adding an extra level of difficulty and making the feat more commendable.

She wrote in her caption, “Never had I been so excited and anxious to ski a downhill in my life… but I guess that’s also to be expected considering I hadn’t skied downhill since the day I retired 4 years earlier!” Lindsey Vonn, despite her retirement, continues to push the boundaries within the sports world, and fans await more such epicness from the legend as 2024 continues to unfold.

For Olympic gold medalist and Alpine skiing icon Lindsey Vonn, retirement couldn’t signify the end of her involvement in the broad world of sports. Having hung her boots in 2020, Vonn got onboard with some of the country’s most exciting upcoming sporting events. Along with that, the 39-year-old former World Champion is also the Chair of Athlete Experience in Utah. Her new role has seen Vonn taking to bigger stages and advocating Utah’s prospects as the host for the 2034 Winter Olympics.

And now, the legendary downhill skier has a special request for the country’s authoritative hockey institution, which she believes should pay more heed to her words. Vonn has now taken to social media to amplify the news of the recent activities of Ryan Smith, the owner of the NBA team Utah Jazz.

Lindsey Vonn seizes the chance
Smith is one of the country’s most eccentric businessmen and his contribution to the nation’s sports cannot be overstated. In her recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Vonn shared Smith’s announcement which states that the SEG (Smith Entertainment Group) is looking to roll the dice on the process of bringing the National Hockey League to Utah. Understandably, with Lindsey Von promoting Utah as one of the hosts for the 2034 Olympics, the initiative ticks a few right boxes for the skiing star.

Vonn believes the process would offer a plethora of exciting opportunities for Utah, and especially for Salt Lake City. “Salt Lake would be an incredible place for a new NHL team“, wrote the eight-time World Championships medalist. With IOC also considering Salt Lake as a “preferred host” for the 2034 Games, Vonn believes this is the perfect time to expand the region’s footprint in other winter sports, and having its own NHL team would benefit the situation immensely.

“With the potential Olympic winter games in 2034, it would amplify the sport in the region“, claimed Vonn in her post and she also believes that this will help the newer generation with an additional opportunity to explore the sport as well. However, it isn’t just the dreams of hosting the Olympics that’s keeping Vonn’s inner flame alive after she departed from skiing.

Lindsey Vonn on Mental Health After Retirement, Support Dogs

Vonn’s retired life is full of thrilling new challenges
As the country braces up for an exciting year thanks to the Pro Volleyball Foundation’s new league that kicked off on January 24 in Nebraska, Vonn is among the many investors who have come out in support of the women’s professional volleyball league. And she recently ticked off another one from the wishlist as well.

Only days ago, Vonn got the opportunity to conquer the legendary Streif in Austria thanks to some aid from Red Bull. With one of her biggest dreams fulfilled, it waits to be seen if her plans to bring the Olympics to Utah also yield similar results.

Picture this. You’re enjoying a casual day on the slopes, riding the chair, thinking where to head next.

Then, you spot them: two skiers ripping a groomer under the chairlift like nobody’s business. For a lucky few, this was a reality when Olympic-caliber racers Lindsey Vonn and Ted Ligety met up for a high-speed lap at Deer Valley, Utah, as documented by follow-cam master Luke Bredar.

As you may have heard, Ligety and Von have earned Olympic gold medals in their respective racing disciplines, meaning they know how to really bend a ski.

And, while impressive, the turns showcased here are decidedly casual for these racers—more of a warm-up than an opportunity to actually show off.

The End of An Era: Lindsey Vonn

Even in retirement, though, both racers still find time to prove that they’ve still got it.

Last winter, Vonn dropped a hammer when she became the first woman to ski the imposing Streif racecourse in Kitzbühel, Austria.

And, more recently, Ligety blasted down a NASTAR course at Deer Valley decked out in a Santa Claus costume. Sure, it was no Streif, but I imagine Ligety’s time that day was untouchable.

Sometimes some achievements are so awe-inspiring they need to be appreciated no matter which side you are on. Lindsey Vonn did something similar to unite the skiing world and make everyone who enjoys the sport/activity look in amazement. She posted her achievement on Instagram and many, including Lewis Hamilton‘s ex-physio, Angela Cullen, appreciated it. The feat is so inspiring that Cullen couldn’t help but share it on her Instagram story, but there is a catch.

The feat the former World Cup alpine ski racer achieved was on the Streif. Streif is a World Cup downhill ski course in Austria, located on Hahnenkamm mountain, and has been hosting races since 1937. Now four years after her retirement, Vonn got the opportunity to ski on this legendary downhill track. The catch? Well, there are two!

The first – Vonn’s stunt is awe-inspiring because not only did she tackle this track four years after her retirement, but she did it at night. If there’s anything more dangerous than skiing, it’s skiing at night. The second catch that makes it noteworthy for the F1 world is Red Bull’s involvement in Vonn’s unthinkable attempt. Vonn’s nighttime skiing was made possible by Hamilton and Mercedes‘s biggest rivals, Red Bull. One of the most diverse marketing teams in the world made Vonn’s dream come true, and she shared her appreciation in the caption.

She wrote, “Never had I been so excited and anxious to ski a downhill in my life… but I guess that’s also to be expected considering I hadn’t skied downhill since the day I retired 4 years earlier! Thank you @redbull for making my dreams come true and congratulations to all the incredible athletes who raced down it this weekend! You are all victorious in my mind!”

So Cullen liking an Instagram post of a Red Bull task might ring alarm bells somewhere in the world. However, no matter what they do and who they root for, Cullen and Hamilton will always remain incredibly close. We know that because of the time they’ve spent with each other over the years. In fact, there was a time when Cullen and Hamilton were practically living with each other.

Lewis Hamilton reveals the strong bond he shares with Angela Cullen
The two were inseparable when Cullen was Hamilton’s physiotherapist. The New Zealand native took keeping Hamilton in top shape as a challenge and in turn her entire life, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. To oversee and micromanage everything the Brit does and eat in his daily routine, the two started practically living with each other.

Hamilton revealed this to the media, discussing his relationship with Cullen, and also gave her the biggest compliment one human being can give to another, highlighting her importance all the more.

He said, “Angela [Cullen] and I are naturally incredibly close. We pretty much live together. People for sure won’t understand it, naturally, because they see it from a distance, but she has been one of the greatest things that’s happened to me in my life.”

The two started being like each other and even thinking like each other after spending extended time together. No wonder the Brit regards her as highly as he does.

So even if Cullen showcased her support for Vonn in an event backed by Hamilton’s biggest rivals, it’s not a reflection of their relationship. She’s just showcasing her support for an incredible athlete achieving a tremendous feat.
