THE MEN that have faced both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have predicted who they believe would win an all-British showdown.

AJ produced a brilliant second round knockout to demolish Francis Ngannou last Friday.

Tyson Fury had been floored by the UFC legend just months earlier

That was his fourth win on the bounce as he continues his quest to try and become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

That was the first time that UFC legend Ngannou had been KOed in his career.

And it came just five months’ after he floored and then took WBC title holder Fury the distance in Saudi Arabia.

The Gypsy King is preparing to face Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 in order to unify the division, with a rematch clause inserted into the package.

Joshua is widely-believed to be set to face the winner of those showdowns.

And that means that there is the prospect of a potential gigantic tussle with compatriot and long-time rival Fury.

As well as Ngannou, who says he “would give it to AJ for right now” when quizzed about who would emerge victorious, four other men have been between the ropes with both.

They are Kevin Johnson, Dillian Whyte, Otto Wallin and Wladimir Klitschko – and here is who they believe would win the Battle of Britain clash:

KEVIN JOHNSON
The American lost to Fury in 2012 via unanimous decision and then courtesy of KO to Joshua three years later.
He predicted: “Tyson Fury has one thing that many people can’t beat.

“It’s not skill, Anthony Joshua is definitely the more skillful fighter, but Tyson Fury is so long and in a safety zone with that reach and movement, he made Wladimir Klitschko look like an amateur.

“He didn’t do that because he has more skill, everybody knows that Klitschko would knock him out, but you’ve got to get past that reach.

“It’s like giving somebody a sniper rifle and asking somebody 20 yards away to run up on him.”

DILLIAN WHYTE
The Body Snatcher has just been cleared to return after an “adverse analytical finding” caused his rematch with Joshua to be cancelled last August.

He beat AJ in the amateurs, but suffered a seventh round KO when they met professionally in 2015 while he was brutally stopped in the sixth by Fury at Wembley in 2022.

When asked previously about AJ vs Fury, Whyte said: “This is heavyweight boxing, man.

“Who would’ve said Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall would have knocked out Lennox Lewis? It’s heavyweight boxing.

“Wladimir Klitschko lost to Ross Puritty, no-one even knows that guy. There’s a case for both guys winning this fight, I think. Both guys showed a lot of versatility in their fights.

“[Joshua’s] two fights with [Andy] Ruiz and [Fury’s] two fights with [Deontay] Wilder – they’re the same guys but they’re different styles and different ways of getting the victory.

“Joshua had a loss against Ruiz, Fury had a draw against Wilder. Then Fury came off the back foot, was aggressive and knocked Wilder out.

“And Joshua came off the front foot, got on the back foot and got a points decision against Andy Ruiz.

“You see what I’m saying? It’s hard, only true fans of each guy will say, ‘This guy’s gonna win.’ It’s very hard, I don’t think no boxing purist would say, ‘This guys gonna win because of this.’”

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO
The legendary Ukrainian suffered a huge upset when Fury beat him in Germany in November 2015 on points to become heavyweight champ.

Klitschko and Joshua then produced a classic in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley seventeen months later as both stars hit the canvas in the rollercoaster clash.

Tyson Fury shocked the world back in November 2015 against Wladimir Klitschko

It was eventually AJ that delivered the finisher, knocking the veteran down tice in the 11th which resulted in the ref stopping it.

And Klitschko has no doubts who would win out of AJ vs Fury, saying: “Hands down Joshua.

“He is getting to be the complete fighter. Technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner. The other guy [Fury], like a fart in the wind it is there and it is gone.

“In the history of boxing there are a lot of examples of this kind of guy. They can be successful for a time but are not disciplined enough to continue to be successful.

“I wish Tyson well but I think there is a lack of discipline there, and discipline is more important than motivation.

“Drawing from my experience I would say it is going to be very difficult for Tyson because there’s that lack of discipline.”

OTTO WALLIN
The Swede was only meant to be a tune-up for Fury ahead of his rematch with Wilder in 2019 but he almost caused a huge shock.

He caused a huge gash above the Gypsy King’s right eye that almost caused the doctor to step in, only for Fury to bravely battle on and get the decision before heading to hospital to receive 47 stitches.

But AJ suffered no scares against Wallin on December 23 at Day of Reckoning in Saudi Arabia as he dished out so much punishment that his rival’s corner was forced to throw in the towel after the fifth round.

On a potential fight between the Brits, Wallin said: “Well, I would say that this fight with Joshua was a lot tougher than the fight I had with Fury.

“It’s hard to say [what would happen in a fight between Fury and Joshua]. I think that Fury’s a very good fighter. Can probably pick it up from what he was doing in his last fight.

“It’s a decent fight. We’ll see what happens with Joshua now.

anthony-joshua-punches-otto-wallin-868077723.webp

“He might be on to something really good with Ben Davison, and Ben obviously knows Tyson. I don’t know. There’s a lot of variables.

“I always said that Fury would win that fight, but now just being in with Joshua, I feel a little bit different.

“It’s hard to go against Tyson I think. But, I don’t know, it’s changed my mind a bit after this fight.”

After losing to both British heavyweights in the last six months

Francis Ngannou has weighed in on the long-contested debate over who would win if Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury ever faced off inside the ring.

Fury was taken the distance by Ngannou in October 2023 but the fight was scored in the Brit's favour

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou has fought both British heavyweights in the last six months, but fallen to defeats on both occasions, most recently to Joshua last Friday.

The Cameroonian fighter suffered a stunning second-round knockout loss against the former two-time heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia, falling afoul of a stunning right from the Brit.

Joshua secured a comprehensive second round knockout victory over Ngannou on Friday

After hitting the deck twice already in the fight it proved too much for Ngannou to come back from, and he was seemingly unconscious by the time he hit the canvas for the third time on the night.

Against Fury, the MMA star made it the distance, with many talking up his credentials as a boxer after the surprising result, and as a veteran of both fights he is perhaps well placed to give his verdict on a potential winner.

Francis Ngannou has weighed in on the Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury debate after losing to both fighters

After losing to AJ on Friday, Ngannou was asked who he backed to come out on top if the two ever crossed paths, he told iFL TV: ‘I don’t know, I would give it to AJ for right now.’

When asked about whether he was caught out by Joshua’s power, he added: ‘I think he got the right timing. It was about the timing, mostly.

Joshua has looked back to his best in his most recent fights, beating Otto Wallin in December after his corner threw in the towel, having stopped Robert Helenius in August 2023 for a first knockout win in almost three years.

Ngannou caught a brilliant right cross from Joshua to the face that sent him plummeting to the canvas

However, following his win over Ngannou on Friday, Fury appeared to throw some shade at Joshua.

‘Me and Oleksandr Usyk have got an undisputed heavyweight world title fight coming up, and he’s just had a show fight – which is fantastic for the show, but for the actual real boxing it’s me and Usyk who fight for the No 1 position and undisputed,’ he told talkSPORT’s Michael Benson.

Joshua hit out at the Gypsy King in the wake of his second-round win, seemingly brushing off his compatriot’s comments and dubbing him a trash talker.

Joshua called Fury’s remarks about Ngannou ‘disrespectful’ after the MMA star ‘changed his life around’

Speaking to iFL TV, Joshua was asked about Fury’s reaction to his knockout and simply replied: ‘F*** Tyson Fury.’

He added: ‘You know what it is? I don’t like trash talking people but I heard him say something like “I’m here to do commentary about these two sausages”.

‘That guy that I fought (Ngannou), that he fought, is an ex-UFC heavyweight champion. A phenomenal story. Someone who changed his life around.

‘It’s too disrespectful. Forget anything about him.’

Swedish heavyweight contender Otto Wallin said Anthony Joshua was ‘past his peak’ before their fight, but was taught a quick lesson when the Brit turned up as good as he has looked in some time.

Joshua dominated from the opening bell, picking his shots with tremendous precision and measured aggression, forcing Wallin to retire on his stool with blood around his nose following the fifth-round. It was ‘AJ’s a first back-to-back knockout win since 2017.

In an interview with Boxing News, Wallin cleared up news of his injury and showed support for his trainer, Joey Gamache, who made the decision to pull him out of the contest.

“I have a fracture on my nose, it’s not completely broken, but it’s fractured.”

“I noticed that I was bleeding but when you are in the fight you have so much adrenaline and it was early in the fight. I noticed that it was uncomfortable but I don’t think it made a big difference.”

“I didn’t disagree with him [when he chose to pull me out], Joey [Gamache] told me that he was going to stop it and I didn’t say anything. Joey has been with me for ten years, he has seen me in training and almost all of my fights and he has never pulled me out of anything, so I trust Joey, he is always looking out for me and I feel very happy that I have a trainer who puts my health first. There is a life after boxing, so I am very appreciative that he is looking out for me.”

Joshua’s win seems to have lined him up for a fight with Filip Hrgovic and a possible IBF Vacant Title as he seeks to become just the fifth three-time heavyweight champion of all-time.

Wallin, at 33 and with losses to just Joshua and Tyson Fury, will take stock and come back this year.

Anthony Joshua now has a target on his back once more having rebuilt well in 2023 with three victories over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin.

Many contenders now want a shot once more as the Brit looks to become a three-time world champion and one man in particular who is keen on the ‘AJ’ fight is 40-year-old Chinese heavyweight, Zhilei Zhang.

Big Bang’ fought and lost to Joshua back in the amateurs. He had a big 2023 himself, with impressive back-to-back knockout wins over Joe Joyce to ensure he kept his mandatory status with the WBO and very much put himself into the picture for more big fights.

Speaking to FightHype, Zhang explained why he should be next for the Brit.

“When you look at Joshua’s potential fight with [Fillip] Hrgovic it doesn’t make that much commercial sense. If he comes to me the whole of China, the UK and the Middle East would be watching.”

He then calmed the fact he is a southpaw makes it another good reason to get it on.

“Joshua’s previous opponents have been southpaw, Usyk’s southpaw, Otto Wallin’s southpaw, he’s comfortable and really been good at beating southpaws and I’m a southpaw so let’s get it. Credit to Parker, but I want Joshua next.”

It is fair to say this fight would generate plenty of interest around the world and would represent a stiff challenge for Joshua. His promoter Eddie Hearn has said he will be back in March, and Zhang is one of the names on the table.

A highly anticipated clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder does not seem like it will be happening anytime soon.

The two men both fought in December, with Joshua taking on Otto Wallin while Wilder clashed with Joseph Parker, with the expectation that the pair would fight each other next.

Wilder vs Joshua was a fight that everyone wanted to see, but now it may never happen
Wilder vs Joshua was a fight that everyone wanted to see, but now it may never happen

Joshua put together an excellent performance, as he out-boxed Wallin over five rounds and then stopped him to record his third victory of the year.

Wilder, however, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Parker who fought with tremendous discipline to win by unanimous decision.

As such, it looks as if the Wilder vs Joshua fight will not be happening next.

And promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this, as he told IFL TV: “The fight’s dead for now…

“The people who wanted to put the fight on no longer see that as the fight that it was.

“The numbers don’t work now because Wilder’s a busted flush at the moment.

“It’s a mismatch in my opinion.”

Anthony Joshua has three-man shortlist for next fight but fans say 'only one makes boxing sense' | The Sun

As for who Joshua will fight next, Hearn named Zhilei Zhang, Filip Hrgovic and Francis Ngannou as potential options.

And should the Brit win his next contest, he could be in line to take on the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk that will take place on February 17 for the undisputed heavyweight world titles.

In terms of Wilder, there was some speculation that he might retire following his most recent defeat, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ insists that we will see him back in the ring again.

Otto Wallin has spoken out for the first time since being stopped by Anthony Joshua after just five rounds on December 23.

Before the Day of Reckoning, a portion of boxing fans were backing Wallin to spring an upset and derail a planned fight between AJ and Deontay Wilder.

However, after ‘The Bronze Bomber’ spoiled the mega-money clash by being easily outpointed by Joseph Parker on the undercard, Joshua rolled back the years in the main event.

The former two-time heavyweight champion dominated Wallin from the first bell and forced the stoppage after just five rounds of boxing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In his first interview since his second career defeat, the Swedish contender refused to make any excuses and praised his opponent for a great performance.

“I know that he is one of the best fighters out there,” Wallin told Boxing News.

“I really have no excuses, he was just better. He did really well, used his reach well, and he hit me with some really good shots. He was just better.

“I think he had a good game plan. He felt like a very good fighter, and obviously, it was a much tougher fight than what I had with Tyson Fury. Maybe he’s found his home with Ben Davison.”

Wallin’s nose was pouring with blood after round five, and his long-time coach, Joey Gamache, made the bold decision to pull his fighter out early.

The 33-year-old didn’t dispute the call at the time, and over a week later he still feels his trainer did the right thing.

“I didn’t disagree [with the stoppage],” Wallin added.

“Joey told me, ‘I’m going to stop it.’ And I didn’t say anything. Joey has been with me for ten years, he’s seen me training and in almost all my fights – he’s never pulled me out of anything.

“I trust Joey, he is always looking out for me. I feel very happy that I have a trainer who puts my health first. There’s a life after boxing, so I’m really appreciative that he is looking out for me.”

Wallin confirmed he suffered a fractured nose during the fight, and revealed a surgery to repair it has already taken place – but may need to go under the knife again.

“I’ve gotta heal up,” he said when asked what he plans to do next.

“I’m going to the hospital on Tuesday to deal with my nose.

“I had a surgery after the fight, and I might need another one.”

Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk is one of the toughest fights to call in early 2024 but Riddick Bowe thinks he knows exactly the round in which it will end.

This fight had been a long time coming but is now fast approaching with February 17 in Saudi Arabia just weeks away. The build-up has seen plenty of people wondering about how Fury is going to fair given that he was below par in his last fight against Francis Ngannou.

His own father thinks there has been something of a decline and the huge Day of Reckoning card last week also had an impact on his resume with former foes Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder both being easily beaten by Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker respectively.

Meanwhile, Ukranian Usyk has continued to show superb form since coming up from being undisputed cruiserweight champion with back-to-back wins over Joshua and then a second defence of his three heavyweight world title belts against Daniel Dubois.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Bowe doesn’t think the fight will make it to the halfway point.

“I think it will be a great fight but I’m going to go with Tyson, I think he’ll get to him in the 5th round.”

That would be some performance for Fury to knock out a man who has not yet been put down in the heavyweight division.

Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua vs. Otto Wallin fight has a rematch clause for their headliner on December 23rd at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It’s a bit surprising that Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs) would have a rematch clause for this level of opponent, considering that the 33-year-old heavyweight fringe contender Wallin (26-1, 14 KOs) can’t punch and is considered by many fans as a step down from AJ’s last two tune-up opponents Robert Helenius & Jermaine Franklin.

Why does AJ need rematch clauses?
Hearn’s excuse for AJ having a rematch clause for the Wallin fight is that he’s “the biggest star” in boxing, which many fans would disagree with. Even if that were true, why a rematch clause for this level of opponent? It doesn’t make sense.

Even if Joshua were to lose, Wallin wouldn’t be going anywhere. What other options would he have? Tyson Fury already beat him, and Deontay Wilder wouldn’t waste his time fighting him because U.S. fans wouldn’t want to see him against Wallin. Unfortunately, rematch clauses are a fact of life for Joshua and part of the standard thing for him, which is sad because he should be confident enough to fight without them. He fought the tub of lard Andy Ruiz twice and Oleksandr Usyk twice.

The boxing public could live without AJ’s rematches against guys who shouldn’t have ever beaten him in the first place if he were the real deal. The fact that Joshua is losing to fighters like Usyk & Ruiz shows that he’s not a great talent and never was from the get-go. He’s just some guy that the Brits thought was great after he was gifted a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics after winning four consecutive questionable decisions against these fighters:

JOSHUA VS. WALLIN HAS REMATCH CLAUSE
“It’s a one-fight deal, but there are ongoing discussions. You see a lot of people saying, ‘Why isn’t AJ fighting [Deontay] Wilder on December 23rd?’ We got approached for a fight which was Otto Wallin. It was six weeks until the fight. He accepted the fight,” said Eddie Hearn to Secondsout, discussing Anthony Joshua. Hearn doesn’t say who approached him for Joshua to fight Wallin instead of Wilder. If the Saudis wanted this fight, Hearn should have asked them why they would have this awful match-up. Also, it’s risky for Joshua because even this type of opponent could potentially beat him.

If Joshua is losing to guys like Usyk & Ruiz, he could get beaten by Wallin as well, and if that happens, it’s pretty much career over outside of the UK. Yeah, we know the British fans are forgiving of their fighters and will continue to purchase their fights on PPV regardless of how many times they get beaten. For example, look at 39-year-old journeyman Dereck Chisora. He’s got thirteen losses, yet he’s still headlining on PPV in the UK. It’s unbelievable but so sad.

Anthony Joshua: 'I need to be a billionaire' | British GQ | British GQ

“Also, from there, we all know what the plan is. We all know what they want,” said Hearn. “We all know what we want, which is, of course, the fight with Deontay Wilder. They’ve both got to win, and we’ll work quietly behind the scenes whilst everyone is preparing. “Hopefully, by the time they [Joshua & Wilder] are both victorious on December 23rd, we’ll know what the plan is. Yes,” said Hearn when asked if there’s a rematch clause for the Joshua vs. Wallin fight. “Because it’s Anthony Joshua, the biggest star in the sport,” said Hearn when asked why a rematch clause was needed for Joshua-Wallin.

Joshua is the biggest star in the UK, but not the world. He’s down below fighters like Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, and David Benavidez in the U.S.

HEARN WANTS JOSHUA TO SHOW WALLIN NO RESPECT
“I just think he wanted to smash Jarrell Miller’s head in, and if I was a little more tougher, 80 lbs heavier, and I could fight, maybe I would as well because he says a lot, and we know what happened last time,” said Hearn. “You can’t really win if you’re AJ because on the one hand, he’s a bit quiet and a bit boring. Then someone says something disrespectful to him, and he comes back and fires back, and, ‘Oh, his head’s gone. He’s lost the plot.’ So, I like what I saw,” said Hearn. Joshua did a lot of thinking when he was holed up in that darkened room for four days, and he clearly decided to be tougher towards people during his interactions when the cameras are rolling in public.

Anthony Joshua seals unanimous points win against American opponent Jermaine Franklin in London - Eurosport

“I saw a guy that’s actually ready to damage, and that’s what I need from him in this Otto Wallin fight. I need him to show very little respect to Otto Wallin in this fight. It’s a very, very tricky fight,” said Hearn. Joshua has got to let his hands go in this fight because Wallin will move around all night and pick him apart with his pesky jab to soften him up. If AJ gasses out in the second half of the fight, Wallin might even knock him out. “Look at Tyson Fury on how he behaves. No one really starts questioning his mindset. AJ says, ‘Shut up or I’ll knock you the f*** out,’ and everyone says, ‘Whoa, AJ has lost the plot.’ He’s a fighter. You’re already going to get overanalyzed in that situation. He’s ready to go and looking good in the gym,” said Hearn. “Agitated” isn’t the right word to describe how Joshua looked & behaved during the kickoff press conference for the December 23rd card. A better word to describe him would be one of these terms:

Unhinged
Disturbed
Crazed
Unbalanced
Touched
