The PGA Tour is distributing equity to its players, past and present, who have helped build the Tour and remained in its ranks.

The PGA Tour has begun notifying its players of the equity they will receive for remaining loyal to, and helping build, the tour in the face of a significant threat from LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. While the exact amounts of shares in the PGA Tour each player will receive aren’t disclosed, the pool from which the equity will be drawn is estimated at more than $900 million… and it’s reasonable to assume that the biggest names will draw the largest shares.

The Tour is, in effect, rewarding the players who remained in its ranks even as others jumped to LIV Golf. Players like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas will be eligible for the equity awards; players like Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will not. Phil Mickelson, the most famous player in the world outside Woods, will not receive any equity, even though he’s as responsible as almost any player for building the Tour into the force it is now — and he’s also significantly responsible for both golf’s schism and, in turn, the infusion of capital into the Tour that has made these equity awards even possible.

The funding from the equity will come from the recent $1.5 billion investment into the Tour from the Strategic Sports Group, a consortium of professional sports owners who have committed to investing up to $3 billion into the Tour’s vision of professional golf.

The players are receiving shares of PGA Tour Enterprises, the for-profit arm of the PGA Tour. They’ve been ranked through a range of factors, including on-course performance — both historical and current — and contribution to the Tour’s overall health and public perception. A total of 193 players will receive grants in some form, according to Golf.com.

However, just as all players aren’t equal on the course, all 193 players won’t receive equal distributions. The players will be divided into four separate groups as Golf.com notes. The first, comprising 36 players, will be the elite of the elite — 36 current players who have had the most success and the most impact on the game, as measured through significant tournaments won and publicity achieved. Woods is likely in this group, and likely to receive the lion’s share of overall equity. McIlroy will be second behind him. This group will divide $750 million — more than 80 percent of the equity — because this is the group most likely to be poached by LIV Golf.

The second group of 64 players, designated as both reliable Tour pros and rapid risers — think, for example, Ludvig Åberg — will divide $75 million. A third group of 57 players will divide $30 million based on past success. The final group of 36 players is made up of past PGA Tour stars — Jack Nicklaus, for instance — who will divide up $75 million.

However, players won’t just start seeing extra zeroes in their bank accounts. There are conditions; the initial grants will vest over an eight-year period, but not starting before four years. Players who, for example, leave for LIV Golf before the vesting period would forfeit their shares. Players must also remain active on Tour to receive their shares.

The remaining investment from SSG will be distributed in the form of equity starting in 2025, with $100 million per year going to top performers on the PGA Tour.

The entire equity distribution is based on the expectation that the value of the PGA Tour will continue to rise — not an unrealistic expectation given the continuing increase in values of professional sports franchises. But the Tour does face significant headwinds, most notably declining ratings and fan interest in the wake of the golf world’s schism.

While the equity alone isn’t enough to offset the money that players have made jumping to LIV — Rahm, for instance, was offered an estimated $450 million — it’s designed to keep PGA Tour players both loyal to the Tour and thinking about more than just their own career. As the value of the Tour grows, the value of their equity stake grows, too. Will that be enough to force players to take a more direct interest in the growth of the Tour? Yet to be determined, but it’s clear that the money is there for those who stay loyal to the Tour.

Lexi Thompson is having a mellow 2024 season. She has competed only in the LPGA Drive-On Championship this year. At the event, she earned $21,585 from her 16th finish. With her not taking part in many events, naturally, fans will be curious to know where she is spending her time and with whom!

The American golfer did give a glimpse of her off-the-course adventures to her fans via her social media. But another thing fans would be interested to know is the love life of the LPGA star. Is the 29-year-old dating someone? Is she married?

Is Lexi Thompson secretly married?
The American golfer celebrated her 29th birthday on February 10. She had a unique way of celebrating her birthday as she accepted the role of being the godmother of her nephew, Maverick Cole Thompson. But with this acceptance came speculations about the love interest of the LPGA star.

To all the golf fans wondering, Lexi Thompson is not dating anyone and is currently single. The LPGA Tour player has been secretive about her love life from the start, and there is no publicly available information about it. So nothing is known about her current or previous dating history.

But fans can say the 29-year-old has been in love with golf since the start. And this love runs in her whole family! Along with the LPGA star, her two brothers, Nicholas Thompson and Curtis Thompson, are also pro-golfers. They both have played on the PGA Tour. She shares a strong connection with her siblings.

Her brothers have time and again taken care of her purse in her career. She loves spending time with her nephew. Before leaving for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International on February 15, she spent time with Maverick. She shared this information with the caption, “I went to see Little Mav before I left the country.” Apart from strong family ties, some other reasons such as her love for golf may point out why the LPGA star is too busy for a love life.

Praise-worthy achievements of Lexi Thompson’s illustrious career
While there is zero information about Lexi Thompson’s love life, her golfing career shines brighter than all. She is one of the few players who are considered to be child prodigies. At the age of 12, she qualified for the US Women’s Open, becoming the youngest player ever to do so. Lucy Li later broke this record in 2014.

Looking at her budding career in golf, she began home-schooling to focus all her attention on the sport. This move made a huge impact on her career, as she broke the record for the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour by winning the Navistar LPGA Classic. This record was broken by Lydia Ko after 11 months.

Following her Navistar LPGA Classic win, she won the Dubai Ladies Masters. This made her the second-youngest player to win on the Ladies European Tour. The American star also became the seventh women ever to compete on the PGA Tour event. Notably, now she will be going head-to-head with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, and Rose Zhang in an exhibition event called The Match 2024.

While her golf career is the highlight of her life, other areas of her life show Lexi Thompson is a strong, independent woman.

The LPGA star leads a life filled with charity work
Another aspect of the female golfer that shines brighter than her love life is her passion for doing charity. She has aligned herself with many causes, like breast cancer and veteran support, promoting charities for the same. In January 2024, she took part in a panel from the Morgan Pressel Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Furthermore, she is also part of the Caddy for a Cure mission along with Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, and many more. She also regularly helps out charities like the CVS Health Charity Classic and the Michael Phelps Foundation. From making millions on the golf course, coupled with sponsorships from Bridgestone, Puma, Rock-Tenn, Rolex, and Volkswagen Group, the American golfer does not forget to give back to the community.

While not much is known about her love life, other areas of her life do serve as inspiration to others. What are your thoughts on the heartwarming career of Lexi Thompson? Let us know in the comments section below.

Who is Tiger Woods partnering up with? This question has dominated the minds of the ardent fans of the legend in the community ever since he exited Nike and teased a new apparel announcement with a couple of cryptic messages, one of which came out just a while back. Now, interestingly, the golfer’s final ‘Sunday Red’ tease seems to hint at a partnership with a certain brand, none other than Greyson Clothiers.

A tweet was shared by TWLEGION, a fan page dedicated to the professional, dishing out their “initial observations” regarding the post that Mr. T shared on February 10. While doing so, the handle seems to have taken a page out of the rumors associated with the legend’s son, Charlie Woods, who is reportedly said to have signed a deal with Greyson Clothiers.

Is Tiger Woods set to sign with Greyson Clothiers?
Woods had earlier divulged how he would reveal the details surrounding the ‘Sunday Red’ brand on February 12th. Well, commenting on the second tease following the same, the post shared on social media by TWLEGION mentions how the “collar” of the red shirt that the golfer sports in the X post “resembles Greyson stitch pattern and design.”

Reports, as per the sightings, thus indicate he is set to follow his son to the clothing company. Earlier in December 2023, the 14-year-old athlete was also rumored to have signed with Greyson Clothiers owing to his sporting garments from the label during his PNC Championship appearance with his father. Moreover, he was also welcomed to the family by NFL Sensation Larry Fitzgerald on his Instagram story, thereby adding fuel to the fire of speculations surrounding the same.

Well, that wasn’t all the fan page observed from the recent picture posted by the 15-time major champ. Commenting on his attire, the tweet also recounted how the legend “has never worn woven belts like this.” Adding on, however, they also pointed out how only guys like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler wear “a belt similar to this from Nike.”

However, was that all that was observed from the post that was shared by the golfer? No, not even close, as another fan site put on their detective hats to dish out another set of speculations as per the recent sightings.

Woods’s cryptic announcement hints at partnership
TWSPOT, which is yet another fan site for the legend, went ahead to put on their sleuthing spectacles to observe the gloves that the 48-year-old was wearing in the post. They pointed out how “TaylorMade’s new Sunday Red logo is visible on the glove,” all the while speculating an alliance with his trusted club makers.

Nevertheless, in the end, that’s what they are—just rumors. But not to worry, just one more day is remaining for the athlete to make do with his promise and let his fans and the community know what or who is behind the iconic ‘Sunday Red’ announcements. Let us calm down and wait a bit more!

Those who have been clamoring for more mixed events in professional golf will get their wish next month when Rose Zhang and Lexi Thompson tee it up in the first edition of Capital One’s The Match that includes top women and men competing against each other. The rising LPGA talent and the longtime LPGA star will be joined by a pair of PGA Tour heavyweights in Rory McIlroy and Max Homa

Lexi Thompson: Married Or Single? Golf Star's Love Life Revealed Rallshe

For the second time, this version of The Match will take place under the lights on Monday, Feb. 26 at West Palm Beach’s newly reimagined “The Park” Municipal Golf Course in Florida. Simulcast coverage across TNT, truTV, HLN and Max will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Trevor Immelman, Christina Kim and Kathryn Tappen will be on hand to call the action. The broadcast also will receive contributions from DJ Khaled and NHL on TNT analyst Paul Bissonnette.

The format has historically been match play, pitting two two-player teams against one another. This version of The Match, however, will be a 12-hole skins game between the four competitors, with each hole worth a specified amount for charity. All four golfers will use the same tees for the four par 3s that are a part of the routing, while the remaining eight holes will use varying tee boxes and yardage for the men and women. The golfer who raises the most funds through the skins format after 12 holes will be declared the winner.

The previous eight iterations of the made-for-TV event have featured only men, some of them not even professional golfers. Current NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers, as well as former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, have each starred in two editions of The Match. The same goes for Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, who teamed up with Manning in one and Warriors teammate Klay Thompson in another. Zhang and Thompson will be the first two women to play in the event.

This marks McIlroy’s second appearance in The Match, his first also coming under the lights at Pelican Golf Club in December 2022. There, he and teammate Tiger Woods lost, 3 and 2, to the duo of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. Like Thompson and Zhang, this will be Homa’s first time competing in the event.

Stanford star, top-ranked amateur Rose Zhang officially turns pro after back-to-back national titles

The other “star” of this Match will be the golf course. The Park, formerly known as West Palm Beach Country Club, was a PGA Tour venue in the 1950s and 1960s. Renowned architect Gil Hanse designed the new version of the course—whose mission is dedicated to youth programs and community outreach such as affordable golf instruction, classrooms for mentoring and after-school tutoring—along with a two-acre kids-only golf area.

As always, there will be a number of different challenges throughout the event. Those will be revealed at a later date, as will the designated 12 holes they will be using. Only eligible Capital One cardholders will have access to attend the event. Cardholders will be able to purchase or redeem their rewards for tickets exclusively through Capital One Entertainment.

Project postponed
Although initially planned for a 2024 launch, the project has been postponed to 2025 due to storm damage to the venue in November. McIlroy and Woods are optimistic about TGL’s potential success among golf enthusiasts, providing an exciting start to each week on the PGA Tour.

“TGL, which is a new high-tech indoor golf league that we’re trying to start in the US with Tiger Woods. It’s going to be Monday night, primetime in America,” McIlroy told Stick to Football podcast.

“When the NFL stops for the season, we’re going to take that slot on a Monday night, and it’s going to be a kickoff to the week on the PGA Tour.

“It’s an indoor arena where anything inside of 50 yards you play onto a green that can rotate and the slopes can change.

“Anything outside 50 yards, you hit into this massive simulator, which is the size of an IMAX screen – there’s a lot of tech involved in terms of ball speeds, and launch triangles and spin rates, trying to make it an interactive experience for people.”
